But the chapters don't always flow that way so you would need to remember what happened a couple chapters back.

Hmm, okay. Thanks. I was sort of thinking the same thing after thumbing through it earlier. I don't mind an involved storyline and character POV changing throughout, as long as it's written well so the reader doesnt get horribly lost or confused. It does give a broader view which isnt a bad thing.

Really looking forward to starting it, hopefully by tomorrow! Finishing up a Pratchett book and I be diving in then.

News about ADWD, that the very long book won't be split in two volumes.

I read the book 7 years ago but I didn't have a very positive reaction to Tyrion at first. Spending time with Jon on the Wall though changed my opinion. I find Peter Dinklage's Tyrion much more likable from the start, especially with the way he slapped Joffrey around.

He's not finished the manuscript but the release date has been set? I hope this doesn't mean a push back.

George R. R. Martin has posted a picture of a fallen King Kong (his self-chosen metaphor for A Dance with Dragons). This suggests...but doesn't explicitly confirm...that GRRM may have finally finished writing the fifth A Song of Ice and Fire book. The long-overdue official announcement may follow soon.

My husband has read all the books. He'll be happy to know the new one is FINALLY done

We were at the local pawn shop today. He saw the 1st 3 books for $3 each so picked them up. We now have a much smaller library to get books from so it was good to find them there. I also noticed the bloody things are THICK! He's started to re read the first book which is okay because he's a fast reader and I have to finish up my current library book anyway.

I'm PVRing the series and we'll wait to watch it over the summer when the kids are visiting grandparents so that we can watch them whenever like we did for Pilliars of the Earth.

OMG. Once I finished the book I was on, I started reading the first book in this series, Game of Thrones. I saw the heft of it and the print was tiny so thought it would take awhile to get through because I was forewarned that it was very detailed. Uh, no. It's a very easy read and I must applaud George R..R. Martin for taking a multi-character story with so much going on and weave it so effortlessly AND get you inside the head of so many people, viewing everything from their eyes and perspective.

For example, in the HBO series which I'm also watching in tandem, Tyrion wasn't as 'likable' compared to the book. He's now become my new favorite to watch out for.

Overall, very well pleased and am eagerly looking forward in the coming months to reading the rest of the books.

No. Four books have been released. A Dance With Dragons will be out 7/12/11. It is the fifth book in the series. Two more books are planned. The plan for the series is one book per season. However, many suspect ASOS the largest published book in the series (so far) will be split into two seasons. If ADWD is as long as everyone suspects it may get the same treatment.

So, now that we are a few episodes in, what do you guys all think about the casting? Who are you let down by, and who are you surprised with?

For the most part, I've been happy. The only really big change, and it makes sense, is they had to tone down the idea of how super human some of the guys are. There just aren't a ton of believable huge men out there. I'm OK with that now, though the Hound just still doesn't seem bad-ass enough for me. (Granted, we've barely seen him)

Judging from this, and other forums, Tyrion, Arya, and Dany are all early leaders for best casting.

I think the casting has been great. I would agree about Tyrion, Arya, and Dany but I may also be biased because those are my favourite characters from the novels too

The guy they cast for The Mountain is actually huge, at 7 feet tall, so I'm looking forward to see how that plays out.

We haven't really gotten to see much of the Hound yet so I'll hold off on that judgement for now.

Yeah, I'm excited to see the Mountain. The next episode should be pretty awesome in satisfying my "Bad-ass" quotient.

Oh, I forgot, Joffy is probably a perfect casting too.

All this talk of the Mountain! I've only just caught up to the end of last weeks episode in my reading so am quite intrigued to see this character.

    Seven feet you say??

I can't really find fault with any of the characters cast thus far. Some are a little off in hair color and the age difference in the children I can certainly understand as well. So enjoying this series so much!

Don't understand how I missed reading this before, though. When was the first book published?

1996. You're a little late to the books.

As am I. It looks like the tourney of the Hand is in the next episode, so we'll get to see the Mountain as well as Loras for the first time.

Ok, it was not in 1996 that was for sure, I was 9 years old at the time, and while an advanced reader even then , I think they were a little out of my league at the time.

I can’t exactly remember when I first started reading the series, maybe 3 or 4 years ago. In the end it doesn’t matter when you started reading the books, just that you do.

Can we discuss the other books in this thread? I'm already looking forward to how the events in the second book will play out on screen

But I don't want to be the one who posts massive spoilers for the folks who haven't read them and then get chased out of this forum

Isn't that the purpose of this thread to talk about the books... It says literally in the title Spoilers for everything
So I guess, you can post about any events you like.

I can't wait to see how some weddings play out...
