SF_and_Coffee and I appear to share the same muse but not at the same time (all those transatlantic flights... I don't envy her). Whenever SF&C is writing, I'm generally not doing very well with mine, and vice versa.

Additionally, email and IM conversations have proved that we share the same mental wavelength more often than not, which is what makes me think there's a 'one muse per consciousness' rule in effect somewhere and there's enough overlap that whatever authority assigns muses confused us for a single mind.

Which can be somewhat annoying...

Anybody else ever started writing something and quickly come to regret starting it?

I'm currently working on the next episode of Stargate: Ragnarok, and it's proving... challenging. Admittedly it's quite rewarding too, which is good because I need all the motivation I can grab hold of to keep working on it. It's quite different to all previous episodes, which was my intention because I wanted to flex my writing muscles a bit more, only now I'm wondering if I've possibly pushed myself a little too far.

IF it pays off and works out, it should be a very good and memorable episode. Emphasis on the 'IF'.

Just wondering if I'm alone on this or if others have started writing things that ended up much more difficult than expected.

Yep. Some occupy a folder on my hard drive ( and backed up on my network drive) to be re-evaluated at a later time.

But don't let that discourage you: because it is difficult does not mean it is insurmountable.

Well...you could take out a restraining order against SF...but methinks that might put a strain on your author/beta relationship...and get kinda awkward.

This is a message for any authors out in the SG fanfic world that may have had sites on FortuneCity.com (I don't think there are too many left-many have probably reposted their fics elsewhere or have moved on from this fandom), as they may not have been notified. Any authors not down with this effort can contact Fanlore to remove their links (I believe).

This is also a message to any volunteers (with some times to kill) willing to search for FortuneCity.com SG fanfic sites (the SG-1 fandom has not yet been claimed). If anybody is interested, please see the link posted above for instructions (and advice for easier searching). Volunteers should be willing to seek out sites with all types of fic (multiple ships, gen, etc.). Time is of the essence here, and any help would be very much appreciated.

Hey, gang, it's us. Yeah, we know: long time no see. Things have been really really busy for us this year in that evil realm known as "the real world", and so your GateFic team hasn't been able to promote this year's awards as we should. So... we have options. We can either push this year's awards back to later in the year--around November, maybe--or change the format entirely. Thoughts?

How exactly does the gatefic awards work ? I mean, are there categories to place your submission are exisiting stories allowed, what about older stories that a write wrote and just wants to share ? I got an old series, Ascension War, I'm trying to start up the third story in the same series, haven't stouched the series in almost two years since I finished the second story

One rather important rule is that you're not allowed to nominate your own work. For the rest there are various categories and older stories are allowed to be nominated (by people other than the author) as long as they've never won a GateFic Award before.

There are different categories (Gen, Het, Slash, Other), shows (SG-1 and SGA, perhaps SGU too) and crossovers, characters, pairings and subcategories (genres). From what they told me last year it's also dependent on what kind of nominations they get; sometimes that means a fic is put under one category while the author themselves thinks another is more fitting, for example. That means it's possible one category suddenly disappears.

Length of stories and ratings aren't separate, at least they weren't last year; some novel lengths were competing against 'normal' lengths (and probably to short ones too) and mature fics could be going up against K-rated ones. But it's possible those things are changing this year. If I were you I'd just check it out to nominate your favorite fics/arts/vids and then you'll see what happens.

Nomination Guidelines

1. Nominations may be for fiction, art, music videos, or other transformative works.
2. Only works based on Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe, and any movie prequels and/or follow-ups are eligible. Any crossovers must primarily focus on characters from one or more of the Stargate series. Real Person-based works are ineligible.
3. Works which have previously won a GateFic Award are ineligible for future awards. Works which have won other fandom awards (Stargate Fan Awards, Blue Moon Awards, Isis Awards, etc.) are eligible provided they pass other eligibility requirements.
4. We will not accept nominations for works-in-progress. We will, however, accept nominations for completed stories that exist within an incomplete or on-going series.
5. We will not accept nominations for works which contain child pornography.
6. Professional authors, artists, and videographers are eligible for nominations, but professional publications are not. Please do not nominate official tie-in novels, audio dramas, or short stories published in the official magazine. Likewise, any art or videos published in a professional capacity are also ineligible.
7. Self-nominations are prohibited, as most participants believe they diminish the honor of the nomination for all other works. Any nominations believed to be self-submitted will be discarded, which includes nominations made by a spouse, partner or other person who is not a regular participant in fandom. Campaigning for nominations or votes is in poor taste, and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the awards.
8. Nominated works must be in English, or a translation must be provided. We would love to be able to offer a truly international experience for our voters, but we feel a common language is necessary in order to provide all nominated works with a "fair chance".
9. Nominators are encouraged to provide as many details about the submission as possible, in order to facilitate categorization of the work by our team.
