    Caged Heat (610)

MEG’S BACK! — Meg (guest star Rachel Miner) kidnaps Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) and tries to force them to tell her where Crowley (guest star Mark A. Sheppard) is hiding. Sam makes her a deal – they will help her find Crowley if she promises to torture him for information about how to get Sam’s soul back. Castiel (Misha Collins) joins the fight but finds it difficult to work with Meg. Robert Singer directed the episode written by Brett Matthews with story by Brett Matthews & Jenny Klein (#610).

Kill Crowley? That was a bad move! I mean, how does this story arch carry on now? And I thought that it would be the story arch for the season. Guess I was wrong with that. I am really, really sorry to see Mark Shepard go. He was a great guest for the show. But maybe the whole thing with purgatory might bring him back for an episode or two. *sigh*

So much for the downside of the episode.
I didn't really expect much from Meg, but she had me surprised, her part turn out far less annoying than I feared, to the contrary.

Now both Crowley and Cass think that bringing back Sams soul is a bad idea, and the speak out even more concerns I had about that, because my mayor problem is that Sam would have to live with the deeds he did while having no soul, but getting a raped an shattered wreck back wouldn't also be helpful at all.

Only really proper solution would be that it is reassured that his soul is whole and healed before he gets it back, and I hope even Deans realized that it is no good to have Sammy be a psychic trainwreck instead of the brother he desperately wants to have back.

Apropos Dean. He IS no Campbell, and I am very happy about that. Now that Christian is down (and it was clear, that he had to kick the bucket sooner or later, because his body was already dead and so it wasn't possible to get the real Christian back) and Samuel is so no longer on the boys side, despite him only wanting to have his daughter back, there is only Gwen left as an possible Campbell-wise supporter for the boys. I can live with that.

Oh, now thinking about it, this is one thing which bugs me. Why does Samuel want his daughter back under the living? If I were him, I'd want her to be in heaven. He was in heaven, he knows that sooner or later he will be back there unless he really screws it up down here and goes downstairs: His daughter is dead now for 28 years, she doesn't belong here as well as he doesn't. I can't see into his head, but it doesn't make that much sense for me.

Cass was odd. Watching porn - okaaayyyyyy. Happens. Getting a boner over that? No way! He didn't even realize that it was porn. If I'd analyse stuff like this like Cass did it wouldn't turn me on. "I am not supposed total about this" was funny! Sadly I didn't really understand what he said to Meg after he kissed her, but that guy is really in trouble. Does he try to be human or what? I hope we see more of him in the upcoming episodes, I really want to know what is happening right now upstairs, and not only get some fishy descriptions.

Oh, and one more question: where did Sam go in the end? Killing all the creatures still locked up in the building? Just away?

So, over all a very entertaining episodes with quite some WTF!!?? moments, which pushed the main arch in a direction I didn't expect (sadly by killing my most favourite demon ever).
    The cake is a lie!

It looks like now Crowley gets to find out where Purgatory is. I don't think he'll be King there though because all the other high level demons are probably there as well.

Cass is starting to act more human. He gave away the reason at the end: things upstairs aren't going to well. Better to kick ass on Earth than to struggle vainly for control of Heaven.

I'm right there with you guys. This could get very interesting- the good guys are losing in Heaven, Hell no longer has a ruler, and the Winchester world is starting to spin into chaos.

I loved having Cas back. Some of his stuff seemed really out of character (even for Cas, who's been all over the map), but a lot of it was hinting at our good ol' boy from S4 & 5. Hopefully he'll be able to help Sam, since apparently he doesn't want to spend a whole lot of time in Heaven. I would like to see some more of what's going on up there though. That 'Ark of the Covenant' kinda reminded us that the angels are still on the roundup mission.

And I can finally outright hate Samuel now. Even if he could get Mary back, doesn't he realize that it wouldn't be 'his' Mary- it'd be the boys' Mary. She lived 10 years after he died, she was able to get away from hunting and start to raise her family. If she came back, I would think she'd only be mad at him for dragging her back into the life, and probably pissed that he's turned against her kids. When Dean finds him, it could get very interesting. We know what Dean can do when he's mad at someone, and after what Samuel did, I don't think being their blood is going to stop Dean much.

I didn't really like Rachel Miner's Meg, but after this ep, I think she's growing on me. And I'm going to miss Crowley and Mark Sheppard. He's such a great guest star, and Crowley was such a great character. I like the smart ass, sarcastic comments he threw around. And I think he really was the only thing we've come across that could truly force Dean to do something. Not even the angels could do that.

Great ep. Just loving how thuroughly creepy Sam is getting. I can understand him not wanting a soul too.
Shame about Crowley but I get the feeling we'll see him again, but for now I get the feeling that Raph will take over as the big bad.
Please do me a huge favour and help me be with the love of my life.

There's also balthazar. I imagine Samuel could be a pretty big threat to the boys aswell. Losing his only chance of getting his daughter back, he has to be pissed.

Absolutely loved this episode. Thought it was great.

I will miss Mark Shepard and I'm sad to Crowley go but at the same time I'm glad he's gone. I hated that he kept screwing over our boys. I do wonder how the whole Purgatory arc is going to go now that Crowley is dead. Though knowing this show as I do, I have to wonder if he'll stay dead. We might get lucky and he'll return for an epi or two.

Loved Rachel Miner in this epi. Ever since she appeared last season I thought she was great as Meg. Love the chemistry between her and Cas, there's just something about the two of them together that seems to just work. Plus the sexual tension is funny to. Definately think we could see some more of them this season and I hope we do. That kiss between them was HOT! Thought the look Cas gave her when he realized that she'd taken his Angel Sword was awsome. It somewhere between shock and awe. Loved that Dean was the one to save her from Christian. Thought the irony in that was great.

As for Cas. This is one of his more 'human' moments this season and I was happy to see it. I liked the moment between Cas and Sam. Sam threatening Cas shows just how much he's in need of a soul right now. The conversation between him and Dean was enlightening. I kinda figured that since Sam's soul has been in Hell for a year earth time but 100 years Hell time, it wouldn't be in such good condition. Especially since he has two archangels down there with him. Best part of the epi was Cas watching porn. That just about had me cracking a rib. It was totally something I could see Cas doing. Loved when Samuel walked in. It was just the icing on the cake. I liked that Cas was the one to kill Crowley and not one of the boys. Even though Dean and Sam both had very, very, very good reason to want to kill him i think it was good that Cas was the one to do it. They've been at each other's throats since we were introduced to him last season, glad to know Cas finally got his due.

I'm so glad that Samuel is now basically on the run from Dean. I at least have a decent reason to hate him now. I do wonder if he's going to try and pick up where Crowley let off. As for Christian i have to admit I'm kinda sad to see him go. We never did get to see the real Christian and I do have to wonder what he was really like. Now the only Campbell left is Gwen and I like to think that she can be a potential ally for the boys.

As for the boys. I think this was just about the most human Sam has appeared all season at least briefly. At least briefley. The look he gave Cas when he pushed Meg up against the wall was awsome. This was also the creepiest I've ever seen Sam. We've seen him suck down demon blood but the fact that he was biting his own wrist was just gorss. Though drawing Devils Trap was smart. When he smiled and you saw the blood on his teeth, that is probably the creepiest I've ever seen him be.

Dean was just like his normal sarcastic self and it was good to see him that way. Thought the Shawshank Redemption reference was perfect. The interaction between him and Cas was spot on. The conversation between him and Cas about Sam's soul and the condition it is in, really showed how much Dean wants Sam's soul back, reagardless of the consequences.

In the end it was a very satisfying episode and probably my favorite of the season. So far. I don't think we've seen the last of Meg or the last of Crowley. And it'll be interesting to see next weeks episode and where that leaves us.

                My big questions are:

Who was that girl in the cell? How ill she get involved with the Winchesters.

Why was grandpa wanting to resurrect his daughter and not his wife?

Will this be the last time Sam ever walks away from Dean?

I can at least answer one of them: the girl in the cell was the Jinn Samuel and the other Campbell caught in the first episode of this season. You see her briefly in the recap at the beginning. She was the one who infected Dean with the Jinn-poison when she gave him her telephone number as he was sitting for a beer with his neighbour.

                    Hmmmm.......interesting episode.

Don't mess with Cas. Bye bye Crowley. Somehow I don't think that will be the last we see of him.

Ah Sam........you're creeping me out! But in a scenery-chewing good way. That biting his own wrist........and then smiling with blood on his teeth.........scary!

I do wish we'd get to know more about the fight for Heaven. It's been referenced a few times now......wonder if we'll get an episode or part of a glimpse there.

Well as for the second one I'm sure he asked. I'm betting the conversation went like this....

Samuel: Why did you bring me back?
Crowley: Well let's just say my organisation has an opening for someone with your rather supperior skills.
Samuel: Forget it. I don't work with demons.
Crowley: I think you might make an exception in my case. Esspecially given certain perks I can offer.
Samuel: I don't have to listen to this.
                      *Samuel goes for the door*
Crowley: How would you like to have your daughter back?
                      *He stops*
Crowley: Now I believe I have your attention. You were cheated out of your time with Mary weren't you? How about I bring her back? Have some good old fashioned father daughter time together. It's quite easily arranged.
                      Samuel: And Deanna?
                      Crowley: Hmm? Who?
                      Samuel: My Wife!
Crowley: Oh yes. Sorry. I've put my offer on the table. You can take it or leave it.......But I'd strongly suggest taking it...........
                      *Samuel turns and faces Crowley*
                      Samuel: What's the job?

Ok, I fully get that Sam's soul is getting poked and prodded by Michael and Lucifer down there probably like he's a dart board. But isn't Adam's soul down there to help spread the hate around?

I would say no since he was in the room at the end of season 5 when Mikey came down from heaven that would have killed him and sent his soul to heaven so he is just a meat suit now. Much the same way I assume Cas has a meat suit the soul of the guy (sorry can't remember his name) is dead and he just uses the body.

The best episode of season six in my opinion (though it really shouldn't be too proud of that achievement). Sam was great in this episode, he was cunning and ruthless which is exactly how I imagine a soulless Sam. Again, this behavior was horribly inconsitent with the earliers episodes (he can read Meg like an open book but doesn't get ordinary people like Samuel?) but it was the right direction. I wonder why he didn't use demon blood though, he had the opportunity to get some and I think it would have come in quite handy.

I have to agree with warrior_chic: it does not make sense for Samuel to want Mary back. He can see her again in Heaven and since Dean has vowed to kill him anyway, all he would have to do is wait. Besides, she has been dead for decades, there is no point in bringing her back now.

I really would like to know what exactly happens in the Cage. Have Luzifer and Michael assumed their true form or are they still within their vessels? If is the later, how could Crowley snatch Sam's body away but not get his soul? One might think that the body would have been more important to Luzifer.

Anyway, I am glad part of the convoluted plot has been cleaned up a bit and hope we can forget about this whole mess as soon as possible. Frankly, the writers were trying way too hard to find a good reason to bring Sam back without really messing with the Cage. It would have been better imo, if someone (say, Raphael) would have started to re-open the Cage, only to be stopped by Dean & Cas in the last moment and this short breach would have allowed Sam to escape. Imo this would have been a neat solution: we would have Sam back and a reason for new Big Bad to hate the brother's guts. And all this without using relicts like Samuel (and without ruining Crowley for me).
