"Admiral." Steven hopped out of the command chair and offered it to Will, he hadn't moved a foot when Will told him.

"No Colonel, it's your command, I'll take my place back here." he indicated behind him to an empty tech's seat. "I'm here in my capacity as flag only, for the moment. This is your command"

"Thank you sir." Steven regained his chair and pressed his coms link. "Standby Doctor Jackson, we're a little far out from Hammond just now. Another three minutes."

The time ticked away as the ship moved imperceptibly to it's station nearer to the Hammond. "Sam, Caldwell here. We're on your port bow." he doubled tapped his coms again. "Ready for you now Doctor Jackson in five, four, three....."

The view was magnificent, even though Will wasn't a novice at this, he would never underestimate the feeling of looking out at an unpolluted view of space and indeed, the beautiful image of Earth. He stepped over closer to the window and without turning he spoke. "You could never tire of this could you Steven?"

"No Admiral, I've seen so many times, Atlantis and other worlds as well, but this view is always the best one."

"Amen to that." He turned around then. "What do you think Sam Carter might find?"

"If it's to do with the Alliance sir, nothing good."

"I think I might pop over to the Hammond and see how they are getting on, mind if I borrow one of the 02's Steven?"

"It's your fleet Admiral, borrow away. But beaming will get you there quicker."

"No fun factor Colonel."

"Yes as our resident Jaffa would say, indeed."

Will walked towards the elevator slowly. "Don't call them." he said as he reached the door.

"I won't sir."

"Roger Sam, we were getting a little bored here." Caldwell replied.

"Sir, we're receiving from the Hammond, departure in two minutes sir."

Having almost fallen asleep, Caldwell was startled when his XO spoke to him somewhat abruptly, he shook his head and replied. "Tell them about time. Set the Hyperspace co-ordinates for PX6-2M7 and prepare to jump on my mark."

"Yes sir. Hammond, Daedalus. From the commander, it's about time. Setting for PX6-2M7."

"I didn't mean tell them literally....never mind Pyle."

"Yes sir."

"We are on station Colonel and the Admiral is on his way sir." Major Pyle informed Caldwell as messages passed to and from between the two ships.

"Very good, thank you Major, inform the Hammond we are going to condition Zulu please."

"Yes sir. Hammond from Daedalus, we are set for condition Zulu, awaiting your command."

"Understood. Major Marks, this is Colonel Caldwell, we are standing by." Stephen rubbed his head for a moment, now where was the Admiral? "Pyle take the helm, I'm going down to the hangar deck."

"Very well sir, I'll keep on the line with Hammond."

Major Marks came back over the comms, "Daedalus, Falcon One is away and enroute."

"Copy that Marks, I'll inform the Colonel. Say Kev, that game still on when we're done here?" Frank clicked on his personal coms. "Colonel the Admiral is on his way sir."

"About damned time I'm almost there Major."

"Copy, Pyle. My wallet feels lighter already... Daedalus, orders are to meet at rendezvous alpha tango seven as soon as Falcon One is aboard and ready."

"Received five by five Kev, see you on the other side bro' and get the beers cold."

Frank switched to his personal comset. "Colonel we are go sir, as soon as the Hammond boys and girls are clear sir."

"Good Frank, I'll see if I can have the Admiral speak in double time then. Call hands to stations."

"Yes sir. Attention on deck, all hands to stations this is not a drill, all hands to stations."

"MacGregor, Daedalus. Permssion to land, five clicks out on your port beam."

"Daedalus, Major Pyle sir, the way is clear, follow the marker sir starboard bay. Colonel Caldwell will be there to meet you sir."

"Roger Pyle, delta foxtrot by three. And son, coffee, lots of coffee."

"Sir I'll arrange it." Frank sent messages throughout the ship, he didn't know the Admiral personally but he knew of him. A real hardass or so his reputation portrayed him to be. Usually though in Frank's experience of twenty years service, hardass normally meant he was a veteran who knew his business.

Will guided the 302 in smoothly, only just. At the last moment, his hand jerked the throttle slightly and he had to react quickly to pull it back. He dropped the power sharply and touched wheels down, braked and rolled. The DLO was there in his yellow shirt and marshalled him to his spot on the deck. Before the canopy was fully open with a hiss of air, crewmen had the ladder on the side. The flight wasn't nearly long enough for Will's liking but there would be plenty of time for that later.

Pilots and ground crew, mission specialists has assembled in the central hangar, chairs had been arranged hastily to create a briefing area and Will didn't waste time gettiing to them. Stephen Caldwell approached and the two men shook hands, it was show time. Will stood at the front and surveyed the scene, there were familiar faces, a couple of Navy jocks he knew. At the front centre was the Hammonds CAG Lt Colonel Connor Mason, he was a Royal Marine, an excellent pilot but a stuff shirt. He considered himself as much Air Force as he was a Marine and that being so he had inherited the Air Force's dislike of Navy pilots, even though technically he was one himself. The man didn't even look at MacGregor, he sat there conversing with one of the other senior pilots. There was general chatter and Will gave them space before Caldwell called them to attention.

"Excuse me Stephen, I need to speak to one of your boys." Will said as he noticed a young Major he had served with in the 'Stan.

"Sure Will, take your time, I don't think Sam Carter is going to call us in the next ten minutes." He stood there with his amrs folded, impatience written all over his face.

Will gave him a sly look and walked the few paces over and knelt down in front of the pilot. "Well I'll be, Rudy Pena. It's been a long time son hasn't it. The last time we met you were ferrying my sorry ass over Khandahar if I recall, and Major now I see. Well, how would you feel about being my wing lad?"

"Ha,Yes I do remember that. That was what like 5 years ago? Its been a long time indeed Sir.
Yes Sir, it would be a great honor to be your wingman."

Standing again to his full height Will extended his hand. "Glad to have you at my six Major, now I think we'll have the stewards bring the coffee, there's a few more we're waiting for and we'll get this show on the road."

"Rodger that Sir, I wont let you down, Sir." Takes a few moments before getting really for the briefing.

Connor watched the arrival of the admiral and shook his head, covered his smirking mouth with a hand. The man couldn't even land properly.

"We--eelll, he's Navy. Probably thinks he's still at sea." A familiar voice next to him drawled. It was his longtime best friend and wingman, lieutenant Frank Garner.

Connor chuckled with him. "Yeah. With a gale force seven or somethin'." It was funny to watch the man's struggle for control of his aircraft, minute though it was.

Catching Caldwell's frown at them, they both quickly schooled their faces back to neutral whilst the Admiral finished the landing procedure and exited the 302.

"Showtime, bud," Frank hissed, as MacGregor walked up to Caldwell to shake hands.

"Do I really have to." Connor complained, not really looking forward to it.

"It's your job, Connor. You're CAG."

"Guess so."

They both knew Connor loved his job, but he hated all the other, brass-related stuff that came with it. Flying was what Connor loved best, air battles were like ballet when he was in charge of them.

"Come on. Let's get this over with. We'll be back up there before you know it." He felt a gentle nudge from Frank on his shoulder, pushing him toward the other man.

They saw Major Pena chat with the Admiral first, and Connor was glad for that timely interruption.

"Okay, fine." He muttered at Frank, stood up from his chair and marched over to the Admiral, putting on his best diplomatic face and attitude. Garner could tell it wasn't really genuine though. Connor really, really hated this part of the job.

"Admiral MacGregor, sir," Connor said, standing behind the man. "Welcome aboard." He waited to shake hands.

Overhearing the chatter between her boss and Garner, Ange couldn't help but giggle, she left her seat and crept up behind Frank and tapped him on the shoulder. "Franky, look at the Admirals bird, it's 07, that crate was almost a write off, if it were you or me, we probably would have been dead. I think this old guy might be rusty, but I bet it's combat rust." She stood where she was respectfully for a moment, but decided that it'd be best if she returned to her seat. Frank always did his best to find her weaknesses and after he gave her he call sign 'Spook' she did her best to live up to the name. She sat beside one of the Daedalus pilots, Pena was on his chest patch and introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Leuitenant Ange Darkness, Hammond Cougars. But as you know I've been attached to you guys for a while. I don't think Frank and Connor will miss me. I heard the Admiral say you're going to be his wing, what do you know about him?"
