I really like all the cool ideas you get, but in my opinion, if there were to be another season, which i would love, it could be started right after the 3 years passed and everyone is settled in. they detect a huge energy source (the first intelligent life in the universe as rush said) so they head towards it. but when they get there everything is so familiar... humanly familiar. What they found is an intergalactic city with humans. the humans say that they created the big bang causing the universe. Rush gets excited cuz he gets what he wants.... anyways... they tell them that there isnt enough time because, just as people tried to destroy themselves in ww2 with nukes, The drone race is trying to destroy its own creator. Those drones and command ships were meant to destroy all intellingent life to become the leaders of the universe. The season would be about destiny going through adventures encoutering many different and advanced drones heading straight towards the planet where the drones habitate. of course my idea has its flaws, but i think its kinda cool. Maybe somehow earth finds a way to dial in to destiny and dails in surprise! Maybe in the way they find there decendants so then destiny tells them about all that has happened and they join tha war!

Well Ive been watching alot of stargate lately. My good friend is returning from afganistan and i am about to head there myself. This friend of mine is my good science fiction buddy and for us to be able to debate science fiction I figured I would watch as much as I can before he gets home.

SG1= Long lasting and some episodes seemed slow or underwhelming, but overall it seemed to be one of the best stargates and worthy of the time it had on air.

Atlantis= The newer and hiper version of SG1, and still made a fun place in my heart.

SGU= I hated it, and as time went on I hated it more, then its cancelled and I get upset, I guess I liked it more then I thought... I guess it was slowly growing on me.

We need a new stargate, something that lasts a few years and makes you want to make time to see "this weeks episode". But I fear that the more I grow to like a show, the more likely the show dies.

There is still plenty to catch up on, little details that could spawn whole shows. Cheveron expanded dialing is kind of dead now, so I would ask for story archs like:

1: A special forces team during the lucian aliance battles

2: a prequel, Story following the Ancients. Some acended while some stayed and fought the wraith

3: Nerds... A group of scientist who spend a portion of each episode cracking tech, the trial and error of tech perfection, then they must try it in the field. Some episodes they would see hardship as most of there team is not trained combatants

4: A mini series of maybe 8-12 episodes... A drawn out Tatical strike on an enemy, kind of the star gate version of "24"

5: Catastophy strikes earth, maybe natural disater or enemy attack. SGC must rely on former allies for help and real friends are seen as "hard to find". Its not just survival, they must also hold off there enemys.

I know these ant long term or golden ideas, but they can perhaps spawn better ones.... I just want more Stargate

Default Stargate: Return of the Ancients

Been working on this question off and on for several years now...here's the solution I've come up with. Stargate: ROTA http://www.fanfiction.net/community/...ncients/68490/

A lot has been done RIGHT with stargate...which is why so many people love it. I would argue against a total retcon or reboot. Yes, there are many problems with the timeline, technology, and story as is, but you'd be surprised how much of that can actually be written around and given a logical reason. There are some things that can't be (dial all gates) but I'd say that, on a whole, MOST of stargate canon CAN BE SALVAGED.

The franchise needs more than just another series, it needs a direction. So think BIG! The concept I've created holds true to early and established stargate while taking the next step, or two, or three...opening up the universe to more story writing potential than anyone seems to think possible. Stargate is NOT dead, from a writers perspective. It's just opening up.

The key to doing that is with the Ancients, but seeing them from a human perspective. Exploring the universe from their perspective gives you the backstory angle without having to make a series out of 'prequels', you can just do it in flashbacks. Retconing the 9th cheveron(code? seriously!) so that it opens up additional gate networks allows for more secrets in the Milky Way, and having the Ancient domain covering many galaxies gives you more than enough potential new races, conflicts, and drama to milk for years to come.

The Ascended angle isn't necessarily a hangup, it can be worked in without stepping on traditional toes. The original premise was 'the gods aren't gods', same applies to the ascended, and when you see what they can and can't do, they lose the 'uberness' and are just powerful beings...classic stargate footing.

As for reusing characters...yes, yes, yes. But not as regulars. Honestly, don't have regulars. Just write stories and feed in characters where needed. This is an unconventional approach, and honestly Stevenson/clones would need a 'regular' actor for most episodes, but other than that there wouldn't be a cast that had to be immune from death. Unconventional from a production standpoint, but doable. You get a mix of the old and the new, and it changes with each episode as the storyline warrants.

A lot of elements mentioned above included:

    1. Furlings- gotta have them in the mix
    2. Asgard
    3. Nox
    4. Whole alliance of 4 races/Ancient history
    5. Exploration(retreading Ancient turf)
    6. Ori/Alterran backstory
    7. Grand scale, multiple galaxies.
    8. Big wars
    9. Jaffa angle...followup on Milky Way demographic.
    10. Ori aftermath
    11. Catch up on single episode alien races.
    12. Goa'uld, but not an emphasis.
    13. No plot shields
    14. Series Bible...a necessity.
    15. Storyline starts at present, but moves into the future. Not retreading familiar themes and getting nowhere.
    16. Eventual stargate disclosure
    17. Mythology
    18. Ancient/Wraith war
    19. Daedalus variation aliens
    20. Civilization building

Point being, stargate has a LOT of potential in it, for the hardcore fans and the ignorant. How to go about a franchise save is the big question, and Stargate: ROTA is my continually developing answer. Episodes written aren't TV scripts per se, but close enough to get the point across. And one point that nobody wants to hear, but I'll say it anyway...if necessary, we can use new actors to replace existing ones so we don't have to lose characters. RDA is O'Neill, of course, but if push came to shove, I'd want O'Neill even if it had to be another actor(if it was a good one).

Default Re: If They Made a New Stargate Series What Kind of Premises Would You Want to See?

If I were going to pitch a new Stargate series I'd go with a back-to-basics approach, to a certain extent, in that the initial premise would be the formation of a new SG team exploring the galaxy, seeking new life and new technology. But rather than doing a "planet of the week" type of situation with the big-bad lurking in the background, I'd build more of a mythology. Looking at other sci-fi shows that I enjoy, I realize that they really start picking up steam once the overall mythology begins to weave itself into the show's tapestry. The "situation of the week" angle is old, and it's tired. It creates a stale show REAL quick because after the first few episodes the audience picks up on that rhythm, "Team goes off world. Things seem fine. Problem presents itself. Things look dicey. Our heroes miraculously save the day!" All the drama, all the conflict, is artificial because the audience knows that, in the end, the status-quo will be kept firmly in place, week after week. It's boring. But with a planned goal in mind, with each episode serving as one part of a larger story being told, with drama and conflict having real consequences (not everyone making it out of those dicey situations), people will WANT to keep watching.

So yeah. The traditional Stargate premise of exploring the galaxy that's used to tell a larger story (rather than the premise BEING the story). Perhaps Earth has made contact with a new humanoid alien race. They look exactly like us, they're peaceful, advanced, and are willing to share technology with Earth. On the surface, it seems like a situation very similar to that in Star Trek, where the Vulcans make contact with Earth, and everything changes for the awesome. And at first everything does, starting with the Stargate program, which is fully disclosed to the people of Earth. Becoming an SGC officer becomes something akin to becoming an astronaut, with every little kid wanting to grow up to join the SGC and explore the galaxy. And that's where the show is during the pilot. Our POV character could be a former cadet freshly assigned to SG-1 (which is made up of new characters, ones we've never seen before, who replaced the version of SG-1 present at the end of season 10), and nervous as all hell about it.

During his first mission, a routine one in which the team is going to a new, unexplored planet, the team encounters a world that is a hellhole, a slave world ruled with an iron fist by an alien race that, to the surprise of SG-1, just so happens to be the new, friendly humanoid race that Earth has just allied themselves with. SG-1 attempts to investigate, to see if this is, somehow, not what it seems. But it is. Our heroes try to make it back to the gate to get to Earth and tell their superiors about what they've seen, but before they can, they're captured. One thing leads to another, SG-1 attempts to escape but, one by, one they are all killed during the attempt. All save for our hero, who barely manages to make it back to the gate and back to Earth.

After he's debriefed, it's decided that our new "allies" need to be investigated further, and in secret, in order to determine what our new "friends" really want, why they're actually here. Officers from other SG teams are reassigned to SG-1 to replace the orignal, now dead, team. (they become our other main characters as the show goes on). So week after week, SG-1 goes through the gate with the mission of trying to find out more about our "friends," with a more serialized type of story telling, with each episode acting as a small part of a larger story. As the show goes on, perhaps it's revealed that our "friends" aren't the ones running the show, that they, too have been enslaved by a bigger, more powerful race, who've enslaved countless civilizations, and that these humanoids were used as a front for the Earth infiltration because they knew we would be more likely to trust people that looked like us. Of course, aspects from the old show could be worked in (races, characters, planets, etc), but on the whole, it would be a new show, with the original gang around as supporting, recurring characters, but not in the show every single week.

The first season(s) would very much be a mission to gather evidence about our new friends, with the show eventually leading toward our friends being exposed, and Earth entering into all out, world war with the Friends--as in ground troops, air battles, etc. Not just in space, but a full on war. Once the show kicked into this phase, the story would build to discovering that the human Friends were just the friendly face being shown to us, that the "big show" is being run by another alien race that's conquered thousands of other races, as I mentioned earlier. Heck, this phase of the show could even spawn a spinoff that would follow a platoon of ground troops fighting the war against the Friends. It could be called Stargate: Resistance.

The show could be called "Stargate: Alliance" A title that would at first play off of the "alliance" with the Friends, then the Alliance formed between the peoples of Earth as they (attempt) to ban together to fight the war against the Friends.

Anyhow, I realize this isn't exactly the most original concept, but if done correctly it could be great. Really, my concept isn't what's important: I'm just using it to point out that if I think a new Stargate series should embrace the Premise of SG-1, but use that premise to tell a larger story right from the get-go.

WOW. Didn't mean for this post to be so long. Came up with that concept completely on the fly. HA.

I would be interested in an episode or two that deals with the possibility that a person is not reintegrated properly when exiting the Stargate, and is even changed physically or perhaps integrated with someone else who was with him going through the stargate.

I would like to see a scifi show that explores the "Ancient Astronaut Hypothesis" or touches on it. Not sure if that can be done in the context of the SG franchise?

Surely that IS the SG franchise context...?

Before a new series, I'd love to see a 6-9 hour miniseries that would conclude the major threads from Atlantis (Atlantis still on earth), Universe (Destiny's mission), and SG-1 (revealing the Stargate at last to the public).
That is just my two cents.

How about a series that follows a system lord's rule? Anubis or Apophis. I think that would be pretty interesting. Granted, it would be a bad guy as the lead role, but stranger things have happened.

Yep, set a few thousand or even million years earlier.

Or the future, where we are as a race, a good generation or two after SG-1

    First post here.
After reading this entire thread I have to say I really like an idea I saw on pg 2. Allow me to expand on it a bit.

    Maybe call it "Stargate: Resurrection"

(As the pilot 2 hour movie begins...)

A thousand years into the future the Earth is a post apocalyptic nightmare. A few remaining Gua'uld system lords have managed to rain their terror down on our cities and the people of Earth have banded together into resistance cells. The stargate has been buried in rubble under Cheyenne Mountain for the last hundred years... until a resistance cell led by a new group of heroes uncovers it.

    (The continuing series...)

From there the story evolves into the resurrection of the Tauri in the Milky Way as they reconnect with old friends and battle old and new foes.

A series like this would allow for the gate being public knowledge.
Would allow for the return of Destiny to the Milky Way.
Would allow for an Atlantis story arc.
Would be like a re-boot but not, allowing the continuity from SG1, SGA and SGU to still exist.

    Watcha think?

It's hard to think of a new premise at this point. Perhaps it should be rebooted, become serialized, features a darker tone akin to SGU and takes place not on Earth, but in another Galaxy.

    A Star Trek-esque Stargate. I'd watch it.

i dont have an idea, but a lot of peoples ideas seem to based on relationships and battlestar dramatic days of our lives type stuff. All i want is another fun going through the stargate and exploring strange worlds thing, its way more entertaining then watching people winge about who slept with who or feelings and crap like that from SGU luckily rush made it watchable.
no need to change a concept that works like SG1 and SGA
