What would you think the consequences would be?
Which parts of all the Ancient/Asgard technology would be released first, and what would the practical applications be?
How would gate-travel be handled? Would it be strictly off limits for civillians, or would SGC, in combination with private companies begin to offer Offworld tourist trips?
Obviously there would be a huge interest in offworld exports and imports, an entrepenural fellow with the right contacts, and a booking through the gate system could probably make a fortune with just a couple of hundred kilo of offworld coffee, or some exotic drink imported from another planet that people would pay through the nose for.
But what about long term? Surely there would be plenty of nice M class planets out there, with lots of room for earthlings from poor and overcrowded countries. Would we start to use the gatesystem to colonize other worlds?
And how do you think regular people would react? Would this be a truly monumental changing event, or would it attract immense interest for a couple of weeks, just to slowly fade out as offworld reality TV shows would hit networks and dodgy internet (pay)sites would offer offworld porn and pics of HOT! ALIEN! SLUTS! from DAKARA!
