Stargate:Universe is just latest in a long line of sci-fi and fantasy TV shows to get me hooked. I originally ran this list on my High Gravity blog, but here it is with a bit of tweaking. And apologies to all Babylon 5 fans; it's still not on among the Top 10.

I find these type of lists vary immensely, so I'm not sure how accurate any one list can be. Its usually the same group of shows, but they are always ranked in a different order, depending on who published the list.

Good to see Stargate represented on there though. I would have ranked Firefly much higher, and I think BSG is a pretty good choice for #1.

I haven't watched B5 but I can sense some people will argue it should be on there.

I disagree with Lost and The Twilight Zone(I never got into it after trying) but everything else rocks! Thats a best top 10 list I have seen in a long time.

re: X-Files - I never followed it. That and I recall only 1 episode that I enjoyed (the one that was like an episode of 'Cops')
re: Dr. Who - don't think I've even seen a single episode
re: Buffy - never got to follow it, too. I want to see the musical episode again, tho'.
re: B5 - I've seen some, but mostly the movies that were shown on cable...so another supposedly great series that I never got to follow.
re: BSG - I used to watch the older BSG, but I never got 'hooked' to the new one (maybe that's why I can't really compare SGU to BSG...and thus enjoy it? ).

I'd throw in the Dune and Children of Dune mini-series as one of my favorites, too.

edit: I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting something...

I've never been a fan of such lists cause they are quite pointless. How to compare let's say "Caprica" with SGA? At their high points they are both great shows but for different reasons. If we compare them by which has the most interesting characters and drama, Caprica will be up there in top 3. If we say action, Atlantis might probably end up there...

I'm probably forgetting some stuff, I've watched a lot of sci-fi/fantasy series and I've liked a lot of them

I've only watch some of BSG, Fringe, Torchwood, and Dr Who. I pretty much like what I saw of each of those series too.
