If SGU had a central team

If SGU had A main team the way SG-1 and Atlantis does, who would you pick for that team?

    myself:
    Matthew Scott
    Eli Wallace
    Vanessa James
    Ronald Greer

I thought of Rush, but to me he is more of the leader and I couldn't see him leaving Destiny that often. Also he does trust Young.

    What are your choices?

Scratch James and add TJ (if we're going with only 4). I think once they start going off-world more often there will be multiple teams to cover more ground within the time constrains.

Rush will usually go as he see's himself as the only one smart enough to make it happen, but Eli is a good choice for the science role.

Remember, this is SGU. They're aiming for more realism than the previous shows. That being said...

TJ is their only (barely) qualified medical professional. Off-world teams (or would this be a shore party, since they're ship-based?) have a startling rate of injury (especially for doctors). She's far, far too valuable to risk like that.

Rush shouldn't be allowed to go on a primary exploration team, he's also too valuable dealing with Destiny and working on her secrets. With Lt. Scott as their only decent shuttle pilot, he should be stricken as well but might get a pass based on leadership ability and/or chain of command.

A case could be made for Eli, since he's smart enough to be of use but not a vital member of the ship that he is irreplacable.

My version of a Shore Party would be:

Lt. James as team leader (possibly Lt. Scott with the above caveat).
      MSgt. Greer as security/fireteam.
      Eli OR Volker as scientist.
Red Shirt Marine for fireteam/meatshield duties.

        1) Since Young, TJ and Scott are too important for the survival aboard the ship my guess is Greer could be off-world mission’s commander. He had some subordination trouble, true, so more reason for Young put him in charge here
        2) Then it has to be Eli for his “Kino devotion” if not for anything else
        3) Civilian scientist like… I don’t know. Anyone civilian scientist for the sake of the crew harmony. Not to mention how Camile would be pissed off otherwise.
        4) Some private for fire support and for possible men losses.
Everything will be okay in the end.
If it's not okay, it's not the end.

well i think young and rush are too important to go all the time and tj is their doctor if she dies their screwed. so i think it would go like this

          scott
          greer
          eli
4th member would change depending on whose needed at that time.

Yeah, but that means Greer alone would have to look after three civilians with no battle experience... poor guy

Given how SGU is still using the military's system of command, I believe an officer has to be the one leading the Shore Party (I now refuse to refer to a Destiny "off world" team ), not a Seargent no matter how much seniority s/he may have.

                    I'd take:

Greer as SD-1 Leader Stargate Destiny Team
                    James
                    Scott
                    Franklin

Since when has someone being vitally important ever stopped them from going off world? If anything the fact that they are so important makes them more likely to go off-world.

                      History my friends:
                      1) Samantha Carter - She knew Goa'uld tech and other stuff better than anyone, and while she was far to important to lose she was constantly sent off-world on the front line (not after the all clear)
                      2) Rodney McKay - See above
                      3) Daniel Jackson - Could anyone else read and know the things he knew, the smarter move would have been to call him in only for special occasions.
                      4) More could be added

As viewers we love seeing an awesome team go off-world, not red shirts, not the smart choice always but the most qualified and the people we like. It's unrealistic yes, but it's fun and it is the way it is!

I think a core team would consist of:

                        Scott
                        Eli
                        Greer
                        And Brody, Franklin, or Volker.

You know what would be awesomest? If they all got back to the ship without a single injury! Not a gunshot, broken bone, stubbed toe or bruised ego How's that for subverting the tropes?
