    Just updating this thread.

Ratings for #4.09 "I'll Be Seeing You", which was the 4.0 finale -
    - 2.250 million viewers
    - 1.5/3 HH
    - 0.7/2 A18-49

Ratings for #4.10 "O' Little Town", the Christmas episode -
    - 1.919 million viewers
    - 1.2/2 HH
    - 0.6/2 A18-49

I posted this article in the news thread, but it belongs here too - from last week. Sounds like Eureka will not return until Summer '11.

If they're going to keep the show summer only, I wish they would go back to the 13 episode seasons. We actually get more episodes a year that way. *sigh* A 20 episode renewal sounds great, until you find out you're only getting 10 episodes a year.

EDIT: As I've looked back through this thread (not that it's that long), it does look like the cast and crew hoped and maybe even believed at one point that the second half would air earlier. That would explain Colin's "disappointed" comment in the article above. I wonder what happened. It's interesting that the S5 renewal, unlike the S4 renewal, does not specify a number of episodes ordered. So I wonder what will happen with that.

Thanks for posting Killdeer. I wondered when the show was coming back for the second of Season 4.

If SYFY keeps this summer only thing up then Season 5 won't air until 2012 and the second half of 5 until 2013, assuming 20 episodes, and by the time season 4 the second half airs the show could have 7 or 8 episodes filmed of season 5. I know the rest season 4 needs to air first but that's what I think could happen.

I may be wrong about this....please someone correct me if I am....but I'm guessing S5 will probably not start filming until early '12 if they're planning on a Summer '12 premiere. That's, I believe, the way it happened between Seasons 3 & 4. There was a huge break between filming the seasons - that's how Salli Richardson's hair could grow about a foot. I think filming for S3 wrapped up late in '08. And they didn't start filming S4 until early this year.

That has to be a little frustrating for the cast though. I mean I'm just speculating here, but if true that means they're more or less out of work for a year. Not that they can't find other shows to work on. But it just seems like a weird situation all around.

It seems to me that it's a business strategy. Each half season is packaged and sold as if it is a full season, and thus the producers are getting twice as much for half of what they used to produce and release. The consumer always loses, except at least we get something we wanted, even if we're paying twice as much.

They could at least lie to us some and say that we're getting a 24 episode "season" so we get 12 episodes per year. Just like before.

Well, and there's also the issue of the cast raises. I can't find it now, but I saw a short interview with Colin Ferguson back between S3 & S3.5 talking about this. He was very nice and diplomatic about it - I didn't get the impression that he was complaining. But basically what he said was that the cast have raises built into their contracts for every season. But if it's technically not a new season, they don't have to give the raises.

feels like 2 or more years for one season with the long breaks
this will die out soon and there goes next one of the good shows what are left in tv to watch

i have syfyunivers.ru channel now so basically it's worst then uk version even ... shows clark and luice superman show like 6 times a day

so cant help out with any ratings even
would like to see more west channels on my tv then east one's
but well my country is to small to afford west tv channels so cant help out with ratings
why not make international channel where they show every episode in the same time and get raitings like that
think of 101 countrays 6 biljon people even if it's a 5% of it who will watch and make it worldwide
then all who like can watch it and ratings would be fine to make a show last longer then few seasons
sorry about my lack of language skills as it is not my daily language and have learned it by my self as not from any help of others or a school

Eventually, everything will head into the 'streaming' approach to watching, so they won't even be airing it on tv. The network (syfy in this case) is going to lose big time, but then, so too, will the production company, because with streaming, unless they start charging on that front, while we may have to wait however much time before it airs there, we do have the advantage of waiting, and watching the whole thing thru. Will they still even put it out on DVD/Blue Ray at that point? There is a strong chance, being able to buy a season, will be a thing of the past.
