    Default Possible Realistic Character Additions/Descriptions

I know there is a who would you like to see thread, but this is a realistic who/what possible addition to the crew of destiny.

I think one such character could be:

They drop out of ftl and find a sort of shielded, hovering floating satellite. There is a person in there. They think she is in need of rescue so they disable the shield that contains her and free her. They have her as part of the crew.
For those of you who may have watched Batman Beyond, I think she could be like pseudo-Ink character/or the bad guy from terminator 2. She is a shapeshifter. A race locked her up and she is now hell bent on revenge. She tries to keep her powers a secret but kills any who may find out or get in the way of her revenge. The shield was powered by the sun and she does not eat but use the suns energy as well.

    Another:

They may come into a world that is civilized and heavily populated. They could use a guide. One such character addition could be a thief/smuggler of sorts. They usually have a good knowledge of regions/peoples.

    Any other character ideas?

it sounds so horribly cliche. the sealed evil in a can. the evil witch that hides her powers. the con artist.

    Nah, it was CGI.
    Mia: Don't you hate that?
    Vincent: Hate what?
Mia: Uncomfortable silences. Why do we feel it's necessary to yak about bullsh*t in order to be comfortable?
    Vincent: I don't know. That's a good question.
Mia: That's when you know you've found somebody really special: you can just shut the f*** up for a minute and comfortably share silence.

I'd like to see something like an Ancient who through some strange circumstance or another ended up stranded this far in the universe, maybe trying to chase after a seeder ship or something, but isn't a scientist. An Ancient who was maybe one of their soldiers or pilots or something, someone who doesn't really grasp Ancient tech any better than the current crew, but could offer insights into the early history and culture of his people.

I like this idea. He or she couldn't have any insight on ascending either. Like they were sent off to this galaxy before the ancients discovered they could ascend, and it's not a case of amnesia. Characters with amnesia usually tend to be really lame. It's a really weak plot device. They'd learn of the fate of their people, and be as astonished and confused at the notion as we are.

... exactly. It'd avoid the usual clichés but be an interesting plot device.

The character shouldn't have access to the master code either. Maybe get them SOME extra access to ship systems, but not full access. I think it would be too easy of a way out. Kinda like having the communications stones from day one was too easy of a way to open communication with Earth.

were you under the impression i thought they were going to discover a real ' alien', then hire him/her/it as an actor for sgu?

it would be ok with me but i certainly wasn't holding my breath for it.

and has been said but it was CG.

i meant an alien more than a guy with some nose ridges(ie not star trek'aliens')

No silly! They called the Unas and that Alien from the fail alliance men in rubber even though they had much more than funny noses.

But I'll concede that it is more alien than not.

I should really stop harping on about it but the way Avatar has been flouted as “the best scifi evah” really has got on my nerves. I mean great alien deign Cameron, make some people blue, give them pointy ears and a very thin Native American analogy, yeah real alien.

I hope SGU stays away from that sought of simplistic tosh, especially with the design of its aliens and their cultures, though even at its worst and cartoony in sg1 and sga it was never as thick as Avatar is. I’m intrigued by their District 9 style aliens they promised for SGU.

as cool as Avatar looks, so shallow is the plot. the TV tropes list was longer than that of the entire SG franchise

Sounds like it's right up SGU's alley.

Sounds right up Stargate's alley in general. 99% of a standard episode in any of the series was cliche.

Tropes in themselves aren’t bad, it’s badly used tropes that make something crap. Avatar has badly used tropes in spades

I love the idea of a new charactor possibably joining the cast next season. And would be interested in seeing how they did that, and who they would be loyal too!!!
