        Hah hah hah... sick!
Dimmed light illuminates wearily a thousand skyscrapers of concrete, glass, shattered imaginations and severed dreams. Urban structures of brick and steel extend tendrils of decay and neglect into an aging embrace of irreverence, moving forward into synthetic joy.

Looks kinda cool, but isn't it just a projection and not really a screen like a computer.

              Hi,

Cheers for the comments. You're right, the 'event horizon' is a rear projection screen. If you look closely you'll notice there is a webcam at the top of the gate. The other gate you see in the video is then placed elsewhere on campus and you can see through the gate to the other end. Not exactly like the show, obviously, but it draws a bit of a crowd. The entire system was built in 1 week flat.

Current plans are to build a DHD which will connect the gate to webcams around the world overlooking famous places. Obviously this one has to feature prominently - http://www.pyramidcam.com/

Wow that is brilliant, very cool! Did you do it for a college project or was it just for fun? If its was a project hope you got good grades for it

You could use mini air vents, or air guns to shoot air at those infront of the gate when it activates. This would make the video feel a little more realistic.
Also adding a hidden subwoofer to make the ground vibrate into their feet.
Using falsh bulbs along the inner ring would also create realism.

Cheers for the feedback guys! Some interesting ideas.

It's not a course project, it's was made as a display for the Open Days to attract interest at the Electrical Engineering information stand. It actually creates a video link between two buildings. I hope to make a Dialing Computer interface for it in the near future to make it more interactive, so some of those special effects ideas might work well.

If anyone has Dialing Computer artwork they'd be willing to share, that'd be great!
