Love him. Lovehimlovehimlovehim. I was annoyed with him being used as a crutch and I wanted to kick my TV in with all the McKeller stuff, but that did not reflex on how much I love Rodney. Poor writing is not the fault of the character. Hewlett is such a great actor and I couldn't really think of anyone else who could play McKay.

I definitely disagreed with the focus he got by the end of the show at the expense of everyone else. But overall I really liked the character a lot, especially given what he started out as. I thought they did a good job of creating a hero from a "guest spot guy to make the regulars look like heros" without drastically altering him, so it was nice at first to see the "guy who was always wrong around Carter" have a chance to shine on his own.

Believable? Eh not so much. But he was very fun to watch on screen. More often that not at least.

By the end I think he turned into too much of a uber-genius, but still he was an great part of the show. But I do think they tried to make it too much "his" show. And that's the thing for m,e no mater how vital he is to the show I can never see it as him being the main star.

would have been nice if he had been written as more of a adult then a wiping kid

I'd just like to state that David Hewlett's acting was excellent. He did a marvelous job with the character that he was given, BUT, I did not like the Rodney McKay character from when I first saw him in Stargate when he made that comment about dumb blondes and he was oh so sexist, I felt Sam should have really punched his lights out!

As far as Atlantis goes, he had too much air time, and he was always condescending and treating and belittling people, he needed to eat humble pie on quite a few occasions!

Though I do like the scenes with Rodney and Todd, Todd can put him in his place!

As far as Rodney and Keller, I think she needs to see the local shrink. But I can also understand why she didn't choose Ronon. But that's another story.

TPTB should have balanced the characters screen time a lot more but whats done is done.

I still enjoy SGA as well as SG and the original movie.

They killed her, and didn't put a replacement in.

notice how they never really replaced Bates (Okay Lorne sort of but it's not the same) or Heighmeyer or Grodin really. Chuck i guess was Grodin's replacement but you never saw him in the same context

SGA reminds me of Jackass. it hurts you to watch it sometimes, but you just can't take your eyes off it!

Yeah the more you consider, SGA was like a Stage show. Every week the lead character left, so an understudy came in, then got replaced again. I was just so put off by the constant chopping and changing cast.

I do agree, they should of replaced some of the killed off characters, although I can't see them giving screen time for the shrink, when a lead character such as Teyla got none herself.

They shouldn't have, just that Keller couldn't have gone to the local shrink since they never brought in a new one.

That always did strike me as odd. Maybe the reason that Sheppard was still so depressed all the time by the last 2 years was because they never bothered to replace the one professional that was qualified to help him.

At least with the other two it didn't feel like they had a set of skills and job that was totally unique in the show.

Love him! Well, okay, in 48 Hours, I kinda hated him, but not for real, you could see right from the beginning that he has lots of issues about himself, so I felt ... more like sorry for him , now in Atlantis, he is the most well written, most complex character of that show ( yeah, the other actors had harder job I guess, to bring something out of their characters when the writers were focuing on McKay all the time ), and David did a great job wit him, McKay is interesting, funny... and sexy too! ( I realized that only after my second rewatch ) Gotta love him.

5 years, and I've only just passed 4000

    On topic:
David Hewlett is a fine actor. Everything I've seen of him in interviews, behind the scenes stuff, and so on has given me the impression that not only is he really nice, but that he's probably a laugh too.

Rodney McKay? Despise, despise, despise. Being eaten alive by Re'tu on a citrus planet swirling into a black hole while listening to Jaffa jokes sung in the tune of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" is too kind a fate for him. Never ever having to see him again will still be too soon. Poll needs a "hated him at first, then longed to see him die" option

Keller could have psychoanalysed herself. She could do everything else so it wouldn't exactly be a stretch

McKay is quite an awesome character. From beginning to end. David Hewlett could be a good Doctor Who IMO!
