Not really...remember, you're in space. You're not going to 'drop out of the air' if you go too slow. So the answer is...you just slow down before you get to the bay, like 10mph or something like that. Then you just float inside.

Seriously, with all the tech they've got now, the 302s have got to have anti-grav systems by now. If they don't, just dial down the AG for landing...just not all the way, or everything on the deck will move.

Where are you getting these numbers? If you scaled them please post your work.

The orthographic shot is the most reliable. GUI's and other graphics don't tend to use depth. The image of the 304 assaulting the back of a hive is unlikely to give us an accurate perception if one of the two are closer to the camera than others.

Counting pixels is one of the more unreliable ways to guage on screen objects where depth hasn't been tested.

The other source of information is from the stargate wiki, which draws its information from the SG-1 and SGA collector’s magazines (however there is some debate as to the accuracy/canonicity of the information contained within these magazines).

However I thought it would be interesting (as I have way too much time on my hands) to compare the ship sizes from the magazine to the sizes from the Ship Scaling Sprites thread to see where the two agree/disagree and see if a general consensus can be reached regarding the size of various ships.

NOTE: Screen caps show that wraith cruisers are comparable in size to the Daedalus, if not a little larger, so 250m by 150m may be more accurate)

              Hive ship
Unknown (11km on the ship scaling sprites)

[19] Stargate Atlantis: The DVD Collection 76

Just to make absolutely clear I am NOT saying the information on the wiki regarding ship sizes is 100% correct (I have to admit that the figures concerning the sizes of the X-302, the death glider, the Ori fighter and the wraith cruiser seem ridiculously large), I am NOT saying the ship scalings are incorrect. I am simply comparing two sources of information and inviting people to debate the information.
when i see this i know that you don't know anything about stargate ships

because the scales are wrong 75m 302 for one but as someone said it could be that the the commas are missing but still IMO its all wrong!

you misread. the SSP (ship scaling sprites) thread puts the 302 at 6 meters, not 75.

the magazine is wrong or wrongly quoted

agreed! maybe we should let this thread die it hasnt really added any information regarding scales!

oh but puddlejumperOZ's official information hunt is still somthing worth saving! IMO

I've been looking into ship sizes of SG compared to other shows. There are very few sources for SG, but this seems to be a great forum for such information. I'm not going to give my input in specific numbers, but I really question the size of some of the ships mentioned. I agree that the 302 is probably 7.5 (I know, that's a number). Ori ships: 4000 meters-or just over 2 miles- nope. That does not add up- you look at the ships on the ground with troups around it, just before their launch. Yes, it is big, but not 2 miles. And a Wraith hive: 11,000 meters- nope. That's almost 7 miles long (I don't think so). If it is that big, shouldn't just one be able to destroy the city with it's on-board weopons and Darts? Get 3 or 4 to weaken the shield fairley quickly. There would have been no war. Also, we don't get a good sense of how big these ships are from the inside, except the Puddle Jumpers, and maybe Goa'uld Cargo ships. Usually when the characters go from one part of a ship, all we see is a cut to the new location. We don't know how long it takes for them to get there. Perspective can give us a clue on Atlantis' size. Look at the gate room, the diameter of the central spire, and the hight compared to the diamter of the city. It's more than 3 kilometers.

I did a simple exercise a few days ago. As an engineer I use a CAD software on a daily basis, so this what I found. Using screen capture I got a image of the interior with Sam near a window, now we know AT is about 5'10 or so. Using this as a guide I scaled the widow aperture at around 1.5mtrs. Then with another screen capture of the exterior of the 304, using the window measurement, I scaled the ship out to approxomately 285 mtrs long, it's a bit longer than MGM's sizes, but closer than most.
