Default Important Notice for U.S. Cell Phone Users

Beginning on the first of next year, all cell phone numbers will be made public to telemarketing firms. This could potentially eat up a lot of minutes, but you can protect yourself! Simply call 1-888-382-1222 from said cell phone, or, you can click here to register online for the National No-Call List. If registering online, be sure to provide a valid e-mail address.

    Thanks Rocky!

Can we do this for our LAN line phones too, or just cell phones?

I think you can add any number you want to the No-Call List.

Just FYI - this is not entirely true.
Of course it couldn't hurt to add your number - I just thought maybe everyone would like to see the actual story:

Well the gist of it is

"At this writing (12/3/04) there is discussion among mobile providers about setting up a mobile phone directory listing mobile phone numbers.
According to the Cellular Telephone and Internet Association (CTIA), a cell phone directory is proposed that would be available through calling directory assistance only, not published in writing or on the Internet.
So far, there is not a set date when that will be done and the CTIA says the numbers are not going to be "handed over" to telemarketers.
Users would have the option of not having their numbers listed in the directory."

It was, is, and always will be GREEN

I recieved this information from (after passing through my mom) from the company she represents. I suppose a date could have been set in the last 10 days, but true, it doesn't seem likely. One of the sources could also be wrong. But, of course, there is no harm in adding your number.

Welll this is certainly bad-news, telemarketers are one of the worst things and ALWAYS calling at dinner! I am on the DNCL but every once in a while they slip through. And i don't like those political ones that come through, saying vote for....... just annoying!

This is what I had heard, also.
