You shouldn't have any problem finding one. When I was last in Vancouver, there were quite a few shops specializing in salmon. Even Granville Island at the Public Market had a stall where you could buy anything related to salmon and you could even buy a little coolers at these shops which they would pack your fish in. Very awesome. I brought home some Sockeye Salmon last time. So delicious!!

Yep...they're brilliant there aren't they?...I head straight there for a bag of fresh candied salmon almost as soon as I get to Vancouver....far nicer than candy to me......I usually head up to Bruce's Market (which is on the Lougheed Hhwy, just past Maple Ridge and where my aunt used to live) and buy at least 3-4 of their vacuum packs to bring home with me.....in fact we're having the last one from 2009's visit tomorrow with a salad...*pouts*...I think I can just about last out till April without some....

I'm in Victoria for 6 days too so I should be able to find a decent one there...if not I'll head back to Granville before we fly home....

Wish I was going to be out there during the Summer this year too....but sadly will have to make do with Springtime in Vancouver again...I know how lucky I am to have been able to visit again year on year....

It's a hard decision for me...having done both...I do love the summer (when it's nice and warm and sunny) but Springtime in Vancouver has thrown up some wonderfully gorgeous days too...and the blossom in the Park and the snowcapped mountains make it so bloomin' magical....I think my ideal plan is to go live there....I'm still working on that one!...*winks*...

The cherry blossoms are wonderful. You should move to Vancouver, just think of all the money you'd save in airfare!

So, what are people most looking forward to at the SE convention?

When I wandered down to the Granville Market, I was happy to find the stall, but as I looked and observed what others were buying, I knew the candied salmon must be something great. I bought a bit and though it was surprising in flavor, I quite liked it. I'm looking forward to picking up some more in July again.

When I was there in August, there were quite a few days of cool, rainy weather. I had been warned what the weather would be like so was quite thankful for my rain coat I brought. It didn't stop me though. I have fond memories of climbing Grouse Mtn and visiting Lynn Canyon in the drippy rain. It was wonderful!

I personally look forward to all the fish and seafood I can get while in Vancouver! As you say, us Midwestener's don't see much of it, and if so, it's usually pricey or not very good quality.

I still remember the awesome oyster po boy I bought at a small bar and grill down one of the streets from the Wall Centre. I wandered down that way during one of our lunch breaks during the con and couldnt resist buying it. Mmmm... Must remember to find that place once again. *nod*

In Vancouver? Seeing and doing everything I missed the first time around, but also revisiting some of the 'gems' that made such an impression on me.

During the convention? Listening to all the Q & A's from the guests. For me, it'll be my first time seeing many of them.

Speaking of which... Has the guest list been updated from the three (AT, DK, MW) already named yet?

I think I'm most looking forward to seeing AT, MW and DK together. I hope we get at least one panel with the 3 of them. I'm sure we'll never stop laughing.

If it's just the three of them over the span of three days, I think we'll get every panel with them.

*still crossing fingers for main cast announcement soon*

i'm gonna presume it's a concoction of salmon and sugar, or perhaps dried salmon with a sugary coating

That's what I thought. Seems an odd way to treat salmon, but I'm a huge fish lover, especially salmon, so I guess I'll try it

Exactly! I guess the Native Americans were the originators of the treat and it makes sense seeing how salmon played such a vital role in their lives, and still does.

It involves a process of allowing the fish to marinate in a salt/sugar mixture for many hours before being smoked. I remember they had different flavored varieties at the Market last time I was there too; I know they had brown sugar and maple for sure. Can't remember the rest, but everyone seemed to be buying one or both of these kind the most so I went with what the locals seemed to like and wasn't the least bit disappointed! It's very tasty and a must to try. *nod*
