To put it simply, so that new/original episode air over a longer period of the year i.e. from October to May (9 months) rather than 4/5 months if the show was to air in one go just taking a short break at chrismas and new year.Originally Posted by knowles2

Doesn't have something to do with something the US calls the May Sweeps, basically having all popular shows end around the same time (May) and charging a **** load of money for adverts and such?
