Ralph Fiennes in talks for 'Titans'

LONDON -- Ralph Fiennes is in advanced negotiations to star as Hades, the lord of the underworld, in helmer Louis Leterrier's "Clash of the Titans" for Warner Bros.
Liam Neeson is set to co-star as Zeus in the reimagining of the Greek myth of Perseus.

Fiennes would join a cast that already includes, in addition to Neeson, Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Alexa Davalos and Sam Worthington in the reimagining of the Greek myth of Perseus.

"Clash" marks the first new project for Neeson since the death of his wife, actress Natasha Richardson, last month.

Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes to play gods in Clash of the Titans

Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes will play warring gods in Clash of the Titans, the remake of the Greek-god epic to be directed by Louis Leterrier, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Neeson is playing Zeus, the wise yet sometimes ill-tempered king of the gods and father of Perseus (Sam Worthington).

Fiennes will play Hades, ruler of the underworld, who aims to overtake Zeus and rule over all. Fiennes' deal is in still in negotiations.

The two actors join Mads Mikkelsen, Gemma Arterton and Alexa Davalos in the production, which begins shooting later this month in the United Kingdom.

The deal marks Neeson's first since the tragic death of his wife, Natasha Richardson. The deal was initiated before her death.

What creatures will Clash of the Titan's Sam Worthington fight?

Sam Worthington, who stars as Perseus in the remake of Clash of the Titans, told a group of reporters that after two weeks of filming, he's about halfway through slaying mythical monsters. Louis Leterrier directs the remake of the 1981 film, which showcased Ray Harryhausen stop-motion-animated monsters.

"We've took on the Medusa, we took on the witches," Worthington said in a group interview on Friday in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was promoting Terminator Salvation. "Next week we've got to take on the Scorpiox. Then we've got to f--kin' kill the Kraken. At the moment it's all-guns-blaring kind of thing."

Worthington added that he was excited from the moment he read the script and Leterrier's execution has fulfilled his expectations. "It's going to be good," he said. "I think Louis's got a very good eye, and it's a great bunch of people I'm working with. I read it, and I jumped around the room with a ruler trying to chop the head off my girlfriend."

Sam Worthington Talks Terminator, Avatar, Clash of the Titans & Green Lantern

You've also got 'Clash of the Titans' coming out.

Worthington: Yeah. Filming it at the moment.

Can you talk about what attracted you to that role?

Worthington: Who wouldn't want to run around in a dress and kill the Kraken. That's the appeal. I read the script and was jumping around the bed with a ruler. My girlfriend was looking at me like I was nuts. She said, 'This is the one you want to do, isn't it?' I said, 'It's deep. Trust me.' I had a take on that I gave Louis [Leterrier] and the studio and they're mad enough to let me loose and see if it can work.

How do you think it'll differ from the original?

Worthington: Well, we've been filming it for two weeks now. I'm more bruised and battered than I was on 'Terminator'. We took on Medusa. We took on the witches. I've got that take on the scorpions and then we just kill everything else. It's a bit more brutal. There are no togas or there are very little togas. Like I said, 'I'm not wearing a toga. Bugger that.' You can't put me in a toga. I'm sorry. I can't do it. We're just making it. Louis is a very good action director so it's going to be exciting and big and my job is to bring the heart.

How different is your character compared to Harry Hamlin's?

Worthington: They're exactly the same, man [laughs]. It's hard for me to discuss that because I'm in the middle of that. Some of that I can tell you when we go and promote the movie and whether it worked or not. I'm in the middle of discovering whether the take is going to work.

                              Synopsis:

In the film, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.
