Not my Vanir, no - they are an entirely distinct and unique faction of the Asgard, independent of both the mainstream Asgard race and the Lost Tribe.

I created my Vanir before the Lost Tribe were semi-officially named. They haven't been called as such actually on screen, so it most likely isn't canon anyway.

Yeah, but would the Ragnarok 'Vanir' really need to be the Asgard. The little guys were looking after quite a few 'protected planets after all.
It's already established that the Vanir are biologically the same species as the Asgard and the Lost Tribe. The nomenclature is getting a little confusing perhaps.

Let me put it like this - Tok'ra and System Lords (and Linvris) are philosophically/politically/ideologically distinct factions but are nevertheless the same species - Goa'uld. In the same way, Asgard, Lost Tribe and Vanir are all the same species but ideologically different.

    Uh...

...I don't quite know how to respond to that, except to wonder if you're getting this fic confused with another, or if I'm missing a 40K reference there.

Asgard with chainswords...nope, sorry, you got me there!

Out of interest and just pure curiosity (okay, boredom as well), and because it came up in an email conversation with a beta...

How do you see the SGR team?

Taylor, Halverson et al - to you, what or who do they look like? Of course I already have a strong mental image for each of the characters that even includes their voices and quirks, and I have copious notes and background info to help me flesh this out further, I'm just curious to know how well (or not) I communicate this to you, how you view them and how much it may differ from the daydream version of SGR playing in my head.

Betas, some of you may have an unfair advantage here!

Also: would any of you like me to start posting some of those notes, such as in-depth character biographies? It'll take me a while to get them polished and refined and...finished, but it's always a possibility if there is enough interest.

Oh, and finally, a merry [insert appropriate religious, secular or corporate winter festival of your choice here] to all!

Not quite sure what i see them as, but i guess a combination of Jason Statham from Lock Stock, along with a helping of Jason Statham from Snatch, and maybe a tad of Jason Stathan from Ghosts of Mars...

Apologies for my semi-absence lately. Had an exam of the Israeli Travel Agents Association to pass.
The fancy word we use nowadays is "empathy"--entering into the emotions of others. I had appreciated and admired individual refugees but realized I had felt no blanket empathy for the Palestinian refugees, and finally I knew why... With Jason Statham from Crank as Halverson and Jason Statham from The Transporter as Llewellyn. Guest starring Jason Statham from The Bank Job as Fenrir Warlord!

Reminds me a little of The Fast Show's Monkfish...

No worries, it's been pretty dormant in here of late. Just thought I'd try and get a bit of activity going, but it's probably the worst possible time of year for that!

Heh, yeah, I guess. Me, I'm still dodging doughnuts. Chanukkah boils down to eight days of being besieged with doughnuts on all sides, then spending months trying to get back into shape.

Something new for you all - a Stargate Ragnarok short tale called "Supply and Demand".

It's set about a month after "Baptism of Fire" ended, but it isn't a full-length episode - it's not even as long as a normal SGR chapter - so you can perhaps consider it SGR 5.5, a deleted scene or a webisode.

    Enjoy!

Well I've been writing SGR 6 for a while now, but it's going to take time to get it right so I came up with "Supply and Demand" to fill the gap and keep people interested!

Out of curiosity, what do people think of the SGR short and the possibility of future mini-episodes? As it is I have a handful of ideas for future shorts and standalone scenes that aren't really suited to being included within a full length episode, and it allows me to keep putting SGR out without making everybody wait six months or more for a new episode.

So, do you want to see more gap-filling mini-episodes in future, or would you prefer me to just focus on the long, proper episodes? Any ideas you'd like explored?

SF_and_Coffee has very kindly donated a chunk of her website to me to post my fics, and I have also now got an account at Archive Of Our Own. In both cases there is only "Grey Area" up at the moment, but over the coming months I plan to repost all of my fics to these two locations - and yes, this means all of Stargate Ragnarok as well.

However, every fic I post to these sites will have been reworked, particularly SGR - amongst the basic changes such as removing typos and correcting grammar, punctuation and style issues you can also expect slightly reworked dialogue, a handful of retcons to bring the early episodes (particularly characterisation) in line with the later ones and most importantly - extended and even new scenes. This is something I've wanted to do for a while.

Hopefully most of you will perceive this as akin to a good director's cut (Aliens, for example ) and not me devolving into full on George "Noooooo!" Lucas mode.

I personally like the idea of shorts, they let you tell stories that don't really fit in an episode but that can really flesh out the universe.

There are currently five episodes, each between 20,000 and 40,000 words long or thereabouts, and comprised of multiple chapters. A sixth story is on its way.

Currently Stargate: Ragnarok consists of the following:

Episode 1: Veiled Legacy (5 chapters, 25,138 words)
Episode 2: The First Rule (7 chapters, 40,486 words)
Episode 3: Baptism of Fire Part 1 (4 chapters, 25,853 words)
Episode 4: Baptism of Fire Part 2 (6 chapters, 41,905 words)
Episode 5: Baptism of Fire Part 3 (5 chapters, 29,476 words)

    ...and finally the standalone 'short':

Short #1: Supply and Demand (1 chapter, 3,087 words)

As for when Episode 6: Working Title: Recall will be ready - it's on its way. I can't say when because bits of it are proving very difficult to write, to the point that I have for the first time drafted in a couple of co-writers to help out with the odd scene. I would hope to have it done inside of a month, but that's not a promise. The short answer is ASAP.
