We've seen him speak Russian, German, Chinese (I don't know which one), Ancient, Goa'uld, Latin, Ancient Egyptian/Abydonian, Unas and Spanish that I can recall.
He can also read Phoenician with the help of his books in Serpent's Venom. And was he writing Sumerian in Fire and Water? I can't really remember that one. Also some version of Celtic in 2001.
Those are all that we've seen that I can remember, but I'm sure he's got French, Greek, Italian, Hebrew, Arabic, and lots more.

Yup. I think he said 23 languages in 1969 and that would have been before Ancient and Unas...I don't know if he was including Goa'uld in that.
I know! And aren't they annoying!!Some people are just natural with languages.
(Says the girl who has a really hard time keeping her four years of French and two semesters of Spanish from merging into one completely unintelligible language.)
ETA: Oh! I just remembered he was speaking Mayan in Crystal Skull and he can read Runes in I think it was Thor's Chariot.

Yeah, I think so too.
Yes! lol *teasing* I couldn't get through my first year of spanish though. But I have other talents to make up for not being able to speak a large amount of languages. LOL
Yeah, I remember that too! *nod nod and smiles*
In "1969" he said he can speak I think it was 28 or 23 languages. And he can fake accents really well.![]()
He said 23 languages in 1969. In 200, the puppet Hammond said that Daniel spoke 27. I'd include Celtic as well. In 2001, he reads the newspapers on the Achen world. Also, I don't remember him speaking Chinese. In Fragile Balance, he had a translator.

he said (in 1969) "well i speak 23 different languages...pick one"
Sozan, a Chinese Zen master, was asked by a student: "What is the most valuable thing in the world?"
The master replied: "The head of a dead cat."
"Why is the head of a dead cat the most valuable thing in the world?" inquired the student.
Sozan replied: "Because no one can name its price."
A long time ago in China there were two friends, one who played the harp skillfully and one who listened skillfully.
When the one played or sang about a mountain, the other would say: "I can see the mountain before us."
When the other played about water, the listener would exclaim: "Here is the running stream!"
But the listener fell sick and died. The first friend cut the strings of his harp and never played again. Since that time the cutting of harp strings has always been a sign of intimate friendship.
Of all the mentions of 1969, it should be pointed out he speaks Swedish there.
And count "Ancient Egyptian" as at least 5 languages, I would say. 3 according to the 3 dynastic periods, Demotic and Coptic.
Pinky, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Give or take all of them?
In 1969 he said 23 languages, then he learned Ancient, Unas and Chinese. So that brings it up to 26. I wonder what the other language was that he learned was.. "I need a bookworm adventurer that can say brains and guts in 27 different languages"
ETA: Are Ancient Egyptian and Goa'uld the same?
Jayne - Ain't logical. Cuttin' on his own face, rapin' and murdering - Hell, I'll kill a man in a fair fight... or if I think he's gonna start a fair fight, or if he bothers me, or if there's a woman, or if I'm gettin' paid - mostly only when I'm gettin' paid. But these Reavers... last ten years they show up like the bogeyman from stories. Eating people alive? Where's that get fun?
Kaylee - Shepherd Book said they was men who just reached the edge of space, saw a vasty nothingness, and went bibbledy over it.
Jayne - Oh, hell, i've been to the edge. Just looked like... more space.

I would assume that he spoke and read Asgard and Nox by now, in Unending he managed to read about the Asgard's legacy and from i saw it was just written in Asgard without 'subtitles' lol. So from that i would just had assumed he could read it before that aswell. He was also able to make out what some of the writings said in 'The torment of tantalus', i doubt that he spent hours just looking at the pictures lol, so he might be able to read Furling to some extent aswell, i would doubt he would be able to speak Furling without having heard it first but he must have a basic grasp on the language by now.
I would also assume that he has learnt to speak what ever languages the different countries now involved in the stargate program speak aswell.
Here's a point about language that has been bothering me for some time, in the story arc while Daniel and Vala are in the Ori galaxy, Daniel mentions that the device is translating for them, that is why they are able to understand what the others are saying, but after that everyone from the Ori galaxy seem to speak perfect english, like they have always spoke that language. I know that for story purpose everyone speaks english, but it ws clearly stated that they spoke a different language, then the next thing you know they have always spoke english??? whats up with that?
Well, this is just a guess, but maybe because the book of origin was in ancient, he automatically assumed that spoke it and the reason they heard english was because the device was translating for them. I mean, like when they first walked out the door, someone said something that Daniel assumed was a greeting. I mean, if the device was translating, wouldn't it have sounded like a greeting to them too? So, I think it really was just an assumption on Daniel's part really. And it just turned out that they really spoke both languages. That's just my own personal opinion though.
well, in 200 puppet Hammond said 27, and that was later than 1967 so, im going with 27

I'd be willing to bet he knows Aramaic, as well.
Re: multi-lingual Daniel
According to Wiki:
Daniel is an archaeologist and linguist who speaks more than twenty-three languages ("1969") (in another episode, the number is given as twenty-seven ("200"); on-screen, he has been shown speaking English, Ancient Egyptian, Spanish, Latin, Russian, Mandarin Chinese and German, as well as Goa'uld, Ancient, and Unas (which he decoded).
It makes sense a few languages would be added to the list, with the various cultures SG1 met over the years. The Tokra speak Goa'uld, but the Asgard, Nox and Furlings have their own text, and presumably spoken languages too. Thats three straight away.
As a side note, In "The Lost City Part I," Dr Weir tells President Hayes she speaks five languages. I am uncertain if this includes Ancient, which she will become familiar with in Atlantis.
