But he certainly adds useless tension to any meeting. When diplomacy is the key, bringing a trigger happy anti-Wraith barbarian on board is certainly going to help.
    Not.

That's where common sense and plot nonsense collide.

        Not.
Why not? It stops the Wraith thinking they can just take the rest of the team for mugs, and he's never really caused problems before.

How so? When has Ronon ever not been able to keep his temper under control for the sake of the team lately?

Ronon regularly does things that should get them all shot or arrested, the plot just somehow makes him and his friends immune from paying for it.

In the queen he shoved a gun in the Wraith commander's face on his own bridge and started telling him how it was going to be.

****, even Picard would have thrown his ass in the brig no questions asked for that one.

So - THAT'S why Ronon is there. A plot device to kill Wraith...and for the fangirls.

              das
Believe me, there are plenty of Ronon fangirls who don't like to see him used as a cheap plot device either

Ouroboros, it's the second time in a day I want to green you and can't. Consider yourself mentally greened twice.

Ronan was there for a very simple reason.
                  Keller was going.
Remember they both have "intentions" ;P
And Rodney and Ronan both said let the better man win.
                  So its basically a compitition.
                  Ronan 1-0.

                    2) He's going to have anything to contribute other than insults

                    3) He actually wants there to be any sort of peace with the Wraith

All he's going to do, if he does anything, is something bad like insult them, pull guns on them or otherwise piss them off and thus ruin the diplomacy. It's obvious that he can't stand to even be in the same room with them so why do they keep dragging him along into these situations where he's going to be expected to make nice with them?

First we saw it in the queen, which was by far the worse situation for him, but now again here. They're ready to recieve the Wraith onto the ship and who's there waiting for them again...

This isn't even necessarily a knock on Ronan himself. I'm sure that given the choice there's a lot of other things he'd rather be doing than pretending to play nice with a Wraith.
Because he's in love with Dr. Keller and wants to win her over before Mckay does.
