i think, 'real' druitt vs 'fantasy' druitt...before helen realized their dreams were being manipulated, she could 'indulge' herself in her memories. she could let herself remember the 'good times', but once she realized that the creature was manipulating them, then she rationally knew it couldn't be druitt in her head, so she wouldn't see the 'good times druitt', she would see the real one
what's interesting is that he was trying to help her or warn her. so, i think, her 'betrayal, by him is an influence in how she treats/sees people. i think her experience with john took a lot of the naivete out of her and gave her the cynicism that she needs to survive
