    The Female Team

    From Joe's blog:
06untouchable writes: “Is any explanation given in Whispers as to how the all-female team came about within the context of the story?”

    Answer: Yes, there is.

So what was the explanation? Just that the women were "the best and the brightest"? If so, that's a weak reason in my opinion and doesn't really explain Sheppard leaving his team behind. The female team didn't impress me.

Me neither. When I first saw this team I got the feeling that they'll be going to Universe and basically Paul or whomever was trying to introduce the audience to the "feel" of different type (younger) characters for the new show.

I hate it! That Rambette lady has a chip on her shoulder and is trying to prove that she is tough and those girls are so disrespectful.

I didn't. That's not how the characters have been on SG-1 or Atlantis.

I liked all of them accept the Sargent she was annoying as hell. She was trying to be the basic sterotype of a Sargent and was horrible at it.

That's what I said in the first post. Nothing explained Sheppard leaving his team behind, especially if he didn't know who Teldy's team was.

And as military commander of Atlantis, shouldn't he be aware of the compositions of all teams? Mightn't he even be required to approve them? Or were they not a standard Atlantis team? I missed the very beginning.

I want them back, they were interesting and it was kinda cool to see an all female team, I really liked the one who constantly pointed out the attraction between the doctors, she was funny

Why would Sheppard need to bring his own team? He had a perfectly functional team there (shouldn't matter that they were female). All he was doing was escorting Carson to the lab.

As for how the team was formed, Teldy was told to pick the best and brightest so she did. They just happened to be all female.

That was my main problem with this episode. Shep looked completely surprised on meeting up with this team. As the military comander of Atlantis wouldn't he know his men and his women? Isn't it his job to do performance reviews and such? If they were new to Atlantis isn't that all the more reason to know them, I would think he would want to meet the people under his command before unleashing them on the Pegasus galaxy. Now I have no idea how the military works but it seemed off to me.

So is Shep just lazy and doesn't do any training of any kind of his staff or are we to belive that the there are so many teams that he just doesn't have time to know those under his command.

It definitely seems off to me. How does a captain assemble a team and go off on his or her merry way with them into the galaxy without the military commander signing off on it? The only reason he wouldn't know them is so that they can be introduced to the audience.

It was clearly affirmative action at work in Teldy's team, but I have no complaint about that. She picked out fine personnel that might not otherwise have gotten the frontline assignments they deserved, because the military regretfully is male-dominated.
