    Default The Galaxies

I was just wondering what type of galaxies people hope to see in SGU? So far we've had the Milkyway, which was oppressed by the goa'uld for thousands of years, Pegasus, which was oppressed by the Wraith for thousands of years, The Ori galaxy, which was oppressed by the Ori for an untold number of years and the Asgard galaxy. I'm a little tired with the trend of opressed galaxies, I'd like to see some with several major powers in control, maybe one where all the different races are united or maybe even a galaxy that is totally at war. I just hope the show doesn't follow this trend of having 1 major advanced race ruling over the simpler races.

One advanced species does make sense. Until someone is able to knock the school yard bully down, he's king, 'cos he was there first.

Ehhh.... not really. I'd say it's more likely that there'd be either a bilateral or multilateral balance of power.

But you know if there is an alliance of super powers, there will be a revolt / fight right as we pass threw and if there is one super power they will be out of power by the time we are done.

What if there were a group of great , benevolent races that controlled a galaxy cluster similar to the Ancient/Asgard/Furling/Nox alliance in MW, Ida, and wherever the Furlings were from.

I could imagine a scene, where they arrive to an Ancient map room and they activate a hologram projector, which will show so many galaxies near the Milky Way. If you remember the Torment of Tantalus episode, I loved when the alien texts began to shine. A similar scene would be so cool, because the viewer could feel the "new playing ground".

Why does this one advanced species have to be a school yard bully? Advanced doesn't just mean having super-duper technology. It can also mean evolving out of aggression etc.so a species could be benevolent and peaceful as well as having super-duper technology.

That would make a really nice change. Maybe the action adventuring could be the result of not all species in this galaxy cluster being advanced. Some could still be primitive and aggressive.

I wouldnt mind seeing a galaxy where there are two major races fighting for domination over dwindling resources and they see the Destiny as the ticket through which they can get new resources to finish the war and survive.

Yes a few major powers that are realitivly advanced and fighting for control of the galaxy whould make for an interesting story. Being the "meddeling" outsiders we are, we would be hated by most of these powers and that could make for an interesting set of enemys.

How much deliberate meddling could the Earth humans do when -

    http://www.gateworld.net/news/2008/0...has_a_go.shtml

1: the crew is unable to control the ship's navigational schedule
2: If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them,

"The Destiny's weapons are powerful enough to eliminate the Sqyrmph's research base. The only flaw in this plan is that we can't make the ship go there."

"It will take seven days to carry out this mission. Going by my calculations the Destiny is due to move on in two days."

The Destiny crew could annoy these powers by accident but unless the ship is invincible a fleet of warships sent out by these advanced enemies will blow our heroes up.

I really hope we will see a galaxy in full scale war, like two or three races fighting with each other.

Honestly, I've always wonder why no Stargate series has ever gone to the Andromeda Galaxy (the show called Andromeda aside). Maybe I just answered my own question.

I can just see it. The Destiny gets mixed up in a battle. The shields are getting dangerously low and they need to get out of there fast but they can't override the navigation schedule. Then, at the very last second, the Destiny departs because, by sheer luck, it was due to move on at that exact moment.

or like in daedalus variations, they pick randomly a side and start firing (I hope they have some kind of weapon) and pray that the other side will support them. this could only lead to 2 situations : our new friend are cool people or jerk that will shoot us in the back as soon as possible...

IMHO, I'd like a galaxy with one dominant race that (really) exterminated everyone they encountered. And now they find the ship crew a little out of place. It may be better if they have their own language and no one understand what's happening until it is (nearly) too late.

I know this will never actually happen, but I'd like to see something similar to the universe in FarScape, where there are real alien like species, where everything feels alien.

I cringe everytime I see them walk into a medieval village and it looks the same as always. Can't they for once walk into a city that just looks extremely alien? Like organic buildings, strange creatures, peculiar food and all that stuff.

Since the ancients never actually populated this place, I would like to see it have some actual non-human aliens, and even some non-humanoid. Oh and NO MORE REPLICATORS PLEASE!

Man...I would actually love for a Stargate series to really delve into some weird aliens ala Farscape. Star Trek: TNG and the other spinoffs got incredibly annoying with every alien being a humanoid with some type of weird forehead.

While Stargate in general has been better at developing alien beings and cultures, they still have more humans than anything else. It would be cool if:

    1. They renigged on canceling Atlantis and let the series have 10 seasons like SG1.

    2. They went ahead and started up Stargate Universe while SGA was still running.

    3. They exercised extreme will power and did not give in to TPTB and cast all WAY younger cast members than either SG1 or SGA saw in their casting line-up. Lets get real. The SG fan base is an older, and more educated bunch.

    4. They really let loose with alien creature development and employed Jim Henson's Creature Shop like Farscape did. That, or maybe even Lucas Arts.

    5. Carry over McKay and Sheppherd's characters from Atlantis to Universe as series regulars.

    6. TPTB actually listened to the fans for a change.

Why not let it go out on a high rather than withering into nothing like SG-1?

    2. They went ahead and started up Stargate Universe while SGA was still running.
Bad idea. Dropping Atlantis means they're more willing to put more money into Universe, which will make it better. As stated over and over again by TPTB, ultimately having two shows in production accounted for many of the later issues with quality of SG-1 and the early issues of quality with Atlantis.

    3. They exercised extreme will power and did not give in to TPTB and cast all WAY younger cast members than either SG1 or SGA saw in their casting line-up. Lets get real. The SG fan base is an older, and more educated bunch.
If they were content with the current audience they wouldn't be making Universe. They want more fresh viewers, so things will obviously change. Keep in mind that they want both old and new viewers, so they will still be keen to please the fans. "Younger" can mean a lot of things beyond just angsty 20 somethings.

    4. They really let loose with alien creature development and employed Jim Henson's Creature Shop like Farscape did. That, or maybe even Lucas Arts.
Yes, this would be awesome, but it costs a lot of money. Especially considering the premise of the show should in theory give a constant turn over of new alien races to interact with. I hope we will see some high quality non-humanoid aliens, but if there are they will be few and far between.

    5. Carry over McKay and Sheppherd's characters from Atlantis to Universe as series regulars.
No, carry over of characters breaks shows. New actors keep things interesting, old actors, great as they may be, make things feel tired and stale. If they were to keep the two largest roles from Atlantis, why not just keep Atlantis itself? Illogical.

    6. TPTB actually listened to the fans for a change.
Listening to fans only goes so far. Perhaps if the fans would trust in the creative vison rather than badgering TPTB to keep their favourite character from the previous series, they would make less mistakes - which commonly arise from not wanting to upset fans?
