Thanx that helps a lot, I can't see why peeps are whingeing though, this forum is a whole lot nicer than others I've tried, I only wish I came in sooner.

    Default Notifications?

I've got two messages or something but I can't find a way to reply to them. Maybe I'm just failing at finding the replay button or something but could someone help me please?

Definitely because of probie starus. And yes it was nasty spam attack.
Just be patient Ninja it will be worth the wait. And look at the surprise you have waiting for you when you can finally access the messages

It's the "non-probies" messing with you!

Not that I actually expect to win (but one can dream, right?), but I've entered the competition here: http://forum.gateworld.net/threads/7...-27-29-2010%29 Being a long time lurker, I finally signed up to the forum, only with my probie status I can't access my inbox.... Like I said, I don't at all expect to win, but if on the extremely off chance that I did, how would I know?

we'll do whatever we can to facilitate communication. all creation needs to do, if they can't contact a winner, is contact me or one of the mods and we can either ask the winner for permission to share their e-mail or pass on a message for creation.

I agree - I've been on forums before that don't have this 'probie' status and never stayed despite having the same privileges as long time members straight away. I think that despite how much a waste of time it is there are unfortunately still people who go on forums purely to
    1) spam or
    2) aggrivate other members
people who don't have the patience to await approval obviously aren't that interested in interacting on the forum

I can understand the frustration but moaning about it isn't going to get anyone approved any quicker

As someone who experienced the spamming that occurred, I can say it isn't a waste of time. I appreciate the Admin and mods creating a strict probie policy. Anyone serious about the forum who joins has probably been lurking for awhile and has realized how great this forum is, and will work within the patience needed to show that they should have the privilege of being here and enjoying the forum.

I have a question, it seems that I have graduated from "Probie" as my posts, are posted automatically (don't have to wait on the Mods) I was able to update my profile, and has access to the PM system. My question is if I have graduated why does it still say "Probie" under my name?

The title displayed directly beneath a forum member's username = user-title.

There is both a probie user-title (a.k.a. rank or level) and a probie status or user-class. The two are unrelated and have different meanings. Probie can refer to both.

Probie user-title: Any new member with a total post count ranging from 0 to 24 will have the "Probie" rank/title and thus the word "Probie" in his user-title. This is not to be confused with the Probie status.

Probie status or Probie user-class: Due to aggressive attacks from spammers, all new members are on "Probie status". For one this implies you are on moderation, meaning a moderator must approve your message (forum posts, social groups posts, etc.) before it appears. Social group posts can also be approved by the group creator. However, because spammers simply used other means/features to spread their "spam", the forum signature feature, private messaging (PM); visitor messages (VM), editing posts, giving reputation/green to a post, accessing your own profile or other profiles and the pictures/albums feature have been disabled for "probies". This probie status is not to be confused with the probie user-title.

These user ranks/levels depending on total post count are:

    0-24: Probie
    25-49: Airman
    50 -99: Staff Sergeant
    100-249: Chief Master Sergeant
    250-499: Second Lieutenant
    500-999: First Lieutenant
    1000-1999: Captain
    2000-2999: Major
    3000-4999: Lieutenant Colonel
    5000-7999: Colonel
    8000-9999: Brigadier General
    10000-14999: Major General
    15000-19999: Lieutenant General
    20000-49999: General
50000+: Air Force Chief of Staff

I am really glad that I've been browsing his specific forum area and clicked this topic. The curious cat that I am wanted to know why I didn't have access to certain features in my profile - and now I know. Thanks for sharing this and putting it somewhere it's easy to find for a newbie (like me!)

Another good place to search for all those answers to questions is The FAQ section of the forum.

McKay Unable to change my profile and send pm

    Hello there !

I'm a newbie and already got into trouble with the forum *shame on me*
If the problem had already been dealt with, please don't be mad at me, I'm a newbie (and French, which explains my poor english)

I'm having difficulties changing my profile and even send a pm to a member. This is the message I get :

Sorry, Nickki! You do not have access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

If you've recently signed up, your new account may still be awaiting activation. Have you received your validation e-mail?
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
Only advanced members may add items to the Calendar. Check the FAQ for more info.
Is it because I'm a newbie ? I've activated my account and did everything right (or so I thought xD) but I can't put a shiny new avatar and edit my signature...

Thanks for any help you can provide !

(And please forgive my awful english)
