SG-1/Atlantis/Movies/SGU continuity and viewing order

Having only gotten into Stargate recently, I don't really know how (or how often) SG1 and Atlantis reference each other. What's a good way to watch them both together?

After you've watched the first seven season of SG1, you start with season 8 of SG1 and then season 1 of SGA.

So New Order I+II (SG1 S8) then Rising I+II (SGA S1)

Then alternate between episodes (SG1 then SGA) until you get to the last two episodes of each season

Then watch Moebius I+II (SG1 S8) followed by The Seige I+II (SGA S1)

Then watch The Seige III, The Intruder and The Runner (SGA S2) followed by Avalon I+II and Origin (SG1 S9) then alternate again (with SG1, then SGA)

After you've watched the first three episodes of SG1 season 9 and SGA season 2, you can just alternate between episodes all the way through season 9/2 and 10/3.

So, if one was to sit down and attempt to watch every episode in order how would the SG-1 Season 8 thru 10 and Atlantis Season 1 thru 3 mesh together? Of course all of Atlantis Season 4 is after SG-1 Season 10 and the two movies but what about the rest?

then atlantis 1 ep 1
then sg1 ep3
atlantis 2 etc...

then after that it just aired sg1 season 9 ep 1 atlantis season 2 ep 1
then sg1 ep 2 atlantis ep 2 i think

but they dont cross over enough to realy notice,
me an my flatmate did nothing last year but watch our way through stargate an we just did it as 1 dvd sg1 followed by 1 dvd atlantis an there was no problems there lol....ahh good times

Well in my spare time I have made this handy stargate viewing order chart:

There are naturally many episodes where the exact order doesn't matter so I use the arrows to indicate a clear ordering between SG-1 and atlantis. To show what I mean by the arrows, "Rising Part 1" must be after "New Order Part 2", or more recently "McKay an Mrs. Miller" must be after "The Pegasus Project", "The Road Not Taken" must be after "McKay and Mrs. Miller" (not necessarily immediately so). Naturally all SG-1 episodes must be watched in order and all Atlantis episodes must be watched in order.



Additionally I have a more specific recommended viewing order that follows the ordering of the above chart and tries to alternate between SG-1 and Atlantis as much as possible without breaking up multi-part episodes:

I see you've created a bit of a viewing separation between Ark and Continuum by slipping Vengeance in between. I made the suggestion in another post that you could create even more separation by placing Continuum between Lifeline where Carter returns to earth at the end, and Reunion when she returns to Atlantis. Just a thought.

We know that Ark Of Truth is between Unending and season 4 Atlantis due to Teal'c and Carter's conversation about overcoming all their enemies. Obviously this was after the Or were defeated. Since I have not seen Continuum we do not know when it takes place. Maybe After Ark of Truth and before Season 4 Atlantis. Or it could have taken place between Lifeline and Reunion. Or Carter could take an upcoming break from Atlantis, since she is only in thirteen episodes of this season. Already hasn't been in a couple such as Miller's Crossing, Spoils of War, now that I think of it maybe she has already been out of about 6 episodes and therefore she will be in probably all but one of the upcoming episodes.

I decided to come up with another alternative viewing order for seasons 8-10 of SG-1 with 1-3 of Atlantis. This order is designed to keep continuity (Moebius will always be after Letters From Pegasus and Before Siege 2) and to minimize unnecessarily changing discs when watched from the DVDs, so a switching discs when the disc is not over will only happen when continuity mandates it (see above example)

Well in my spare time I have made this handy stargate viewing order chart:

There are naturally many episodes where the exact order doesn't matter so I use the arrows to indicate a clear ordering between SG-1 and atlantis. To show what I mean by the arrows, "Rising Part 1" must be after "New Order Part 2", or more recently "McKay an Mrs. Miller" must be after "The Pegasus Project", "The Road Not Taken" must be after "McKay and Mrs. Miller". Naturally all SG-1 episodes must be watched in order and all Atlantis episodes must be watched in order so even though specific events in



Additionally I have a more specific reccomended viewing order that follows the ordering of the above chart and tries to alternate between SG-1 and Atlantis as much as possible without breaking up multi-part episopdes:
