SG-1/Atlantis/Movies/SGU continuity and viewing order

for everyone who said my list have flaws please explain why. as far as i know my list is perfect from a story-wise perspective.

also keep in mind that i want to keep it simple and don't want to put numbers in front of all the episodes, and that 'SGA' appears after 'SG1' on the dvd, if however i type "atlantis" it would appear before 'SG1'
so i can do either one depending on the order i want them to be seen.

Regarding Avalon before Intruders

Daniel makes many references to leaving on the Daedalus to Atlantis and that Atlantis just recently brought back some of the ancient database implying that it was their first trip back. Intruders is actually set a fair few weeks after The Seige, heck even the flashbacks in it are

Regarding The Shroud after The Return & Echoes

The ZPM issue. In the Shroud, Daniel uses the ZPM to give the Odyssey a cloak. The ZPM is one of the 3 that the Ancients left when the Replicators wiped them out in The Return and where they are to be sent is discussed in Echoes in the future tense, saying one will go to earth, one to the odyssey and one will stay on Atlantis

I'd also put Continuum between Search & Rescue and The Seed. IIRC (I may be wrong here) Sam said she'd only be gone a couple of weeks tops. The Seed is set about a month after Search & Rescue

as for Continuum I think it's set after the Seed because there's a mention of Carter being put in quarantine in the SGC because she's also been infected.
after they find the cure they probably send it to Earth to cure carter.
in Continuum she lived on Earth for over a year, so its strange that she would not develop symptoms during all that time.
that's why I think Continuum is set after The Seed.

As for "intruder" being after "Avalon" i don't think it has to be so. the ship leaving Earth in "Avalon" may have been its second trip to Atlantis, not the first.

order of events:

1. Atlantis sends a message to Earth by briefly opening the wormhole (message from pegasus). Earth doesn't have a ZPM and is unable to respond.

2. Earth finds a ZPM in egypt (end of Moebius).

3. Atlantis gets attacked by the Wraith (the Siege) and Earth sends help using the new ZPM.

there was a few weeks before "message from pegasus" until earth actually sent help in "the siege part 2". so Moebius definately took place after Message from pegasus. they simply sent help when they got the Zpm which was just before "the siege" because they couldn't do it before.

so there is no problem with my list with the order of those episodes. there was however another mistake, "SG1 the shroud" takes place after "SGA the return".

as i said earlier i want to keep it simple and clean and don't want to have to give numbers to the episodes so they'll be in the exact chronological order and completely mix SG1 and SGA. that would be a mess.


The Dauedalus made many trips to Atlantis from Earth, so the one in Avalon didn't have to be the same as the one in Intruders, so i'm not going to push the Atlantis episode in between those SG1 episodes.
i'm trying to keep it simple, alphabetically seperating SG1 from SGA in the best possible way for the dvd to show them by the correct order. i could give numbers in front of the "SG1/SGA" to make any order i like but i don't think its necessary in this case of "Intruder" because there are no real continuty problems to be worth this mess.

Oh I also just Remembered that "Prometheus Unbound" should take place before "message from Pegasus" because Hammond said in that episode they haven't heard anything from Atlantis. So i'll be correcting that as well.

I plan to burn all the episodes on dvds according to this list.

Yes, there are references to each other, but not to the extent that watching one show without watching the other has you confused. My sister watches Atlantis, a show with many crossovers with SG-1. She doesn't watch SG-1 at all. She doesn't have any problems with following the show.

Sure you can watch just one series without watching the other and still enjoy either. But for those watching both shows, watching in the order suggested in this thread will give one a better understanding of the overall continuity.

For example, "Lost City" (S7) introduces Dr. Weir, who we then see again in the the season 8 opener "New Order". At the end of this epsidoe she mentions she's moving to the Antarctic base, after which we see her in the SGA opener "Rising". There's a definite continuity here. Granted, it won't kill your enjoyment or understanding of either series if you miss this order but it makes more sense to view as such.

Another example is SG1's "Pegasus Project" (S10), where the team visits Atlantis, in itself a series' highlight for fans of both shows. If one simply watches all ten seasons of SG1, without seeing SGA, the impotance of the crossover will likely have less significance.

A friend of mine recently introduced me to SG and I just finished watching the first two seasons of SG1. Someone has recently told me about two movies that were released and I’d like to know the proper viewing order! Every time I try to Google and search I come across spoilers ;x so I would very much appreciate it if someone can help me out!

Is this list correct?

Movie: STARGATE The Ark Of Truth
SG 1-8
Movie: STARGATE Continuum
SG Atlantis 1-4

is that the proper viewing order?

I think its like this:

Stargate (Original Movie)
SG-1 season 1-7
SG-1 season 8 and SGA season 1 (Same Time Period)
SG-1 season 9 and SGA season 2 (Same Time Period)
SG-1 season 10 and SGA season 3 (Same Time Period)
Ark of Truth
SGA season 4
SGA Season 5 episode 1
Continuum
SGA Season 5


Not positive about the placement of Ark of Truth, but I think I got it right.

Yes, the episode in which Carter is recalled to Earth and is replaced by Woolsey, thats when Continuum happened.

Does it have a major effect on the events of continuum, other than explaining why Sam is there? I'm just planning to watch it tonight, yet season five of Atlantis has yet to air here yet. So I doubt it will matter, but I'd like to know anyway.

Nope. No Atlantis events are refered to in Continuum. However, the events of Continuum IS referenced in Atlantis's season 5, episode 1.

Does anyone know how long it would have taken Sheppard to recover? I don't think The Seed takes place 1 month after the end of S&R, but after they rescued them from the rubble. If he took, say 2 weeks or 3 weeks to recover (and the end of S&R is 2 weeks after the main events), it might make more sense for Continuum to be after the Seed. I don't think Carter would have gone a month early. Week or a fortnight early, maybe.

You can also watch Season 9 of SG1 and Then Season 1 of SGA and so on.

Having only gotten into Stargate recently, I don't really know how (or how often) SG1 and Atlantis reference each other. What's a good way to watch them both together?

I think the time frame has more to do with how long it takes Richard Woolsey to arrive on Atlantis aboard the Daedalus, which we know takes around three weeks to travel between galaxies, rather than the time it takes for Sheppard to recover from his injuries.
