Thread: New to stargate. Saw Movie, started Atlantis. SG1?

Default New to stargate. Saw Movie, started Atlantis. SG1?

I'm new to the world of Stargate. I watched the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it, but was surprised at the ending so I hope they make a sequel. I started SGA and so far I like it a lot. I started watching BSG a month or two ago. The best days of the week are the two when i get a Netflix disc in the mail. So now I am wondering if I should start getting the SG1 DVDs after I finish BSG or should I just watch Atlantis. Ten Season seems like it will take a long time with Netflix, but if it is good enough, I'll add them all to my queue.

Well, SG1 starts off directly from where the movie left off.

Thats completely true. It will be better to start watching SG-1 first (in this way you'd be following the time line) and when the 8th season of SG-1 starts you can start watching Atlantis (even though you already started hehe) because from there some crossover will be happening and (at some point) the shows complement each other. I mean you don't have to do it hehe but I think its the best way to follow and grasp everything from the series ...and Welcome!!! You'll totally love the shows!

SG1 is fantastic - definitely watch it! Totally worth it - more so than Atlantis IMO (not that Atlantis is bad or anything, but SG1 is just better).

If you want my opinion I'd just drop BSG now and start SG-1 but most people seem to like BSG a little more than I do.

Wow, you realy did things the wrong way didn't you

If it was me, I'd start with SG1, watch it up to Season 8 then start watching the episodes of SG1 and SGA in alternating slots (SG1, then SGA, then SG1, then SGA) as that's how they were aired.

And THEN I'd go back and watch the movie, just to laugh at how stupid it is in comparison.

Man I'm envious of you =(
If I could somehow erase all my memories of all the SG1 and SGA episodes I've watched, and then re-watch them... well that would be fantastic.
Re-experiencing it all again would be so good

Anyway enjoy it. The SG series is my favourite - out of anything I've ever seen... by a long shot.

I have been a vivid star trek fan for 10 years of my life and i ould sit and talk for hours about Star Trek and i could talk anyone's ear off about star trek and i would never have loved anythin in the entire world more than star trek but both of the stargates are neck and neck with star trek for my affections and that is saying something lol

Definately start up watching SG-1. I was late to the Atlantis game (just started and 1/2 way through the first season as I write this), but since I had just been watching Season 8 of SG-1, I knew that was the time to get into Atlantis since they were starting to make references related to it.

If you're like me, you can fly through seasons of SG-1. I think I've covered 4 seasons in the last 3 months.

You could also check your local library as that's how I started watching SG-1, though if you have the means and desire, you can find every season set of SG-1 for $19 (or less on sale) if you wanted to pick them up here or there. Or just take the plunge and get the entire set from Amazon.com (they had it the other day for around $117).

    Don't bother with Atlantis.

SG-1 is definitely worth it, and it starts off right where the movie left off.

Definitely watch SG-1. The first few seasons especially are very good. IMO it starts going downhill towards season 8. Then start watching SGA, as many people recommended.

If you live in the US, Barnes & Noble & Amazon both have the SG-1 DVDs for sale right now at $25/season. If you can afford them, they might be worth buying. I started watching SG-1 around season 7 and when I watched the first seasons (I'd bought the DVDs) I could not stop watching them. I remember one night where, at the beginning of every episode, I would say "Ok, this is the last one, then I'm going to bed". I eventually went to bed at 7AM!

I'd also still watch BSG. Love that show too and I can't believe we have to wait until 2009 to see the end!

Buy those SG-1 DVDs!!! Then start watching them, they take place right after the movie and then follow the timeline till you hit Atlantis and watch that. Other wise things will get jumbled and confusing

A word of warning. I started to alternat between Atlantis and SG1 and I just couldn't do it. The constant break between stories drove me crazy. So I reccomend alternating between series, not episodes (SG1 series 8, followed by Atlantis). Ark of Truth and Continuum can be watched before Series 4 of Atlantis.

But shouldn't be. Continuum is set after S&R.

I'd start with SG-1. You could understand SGA without it, but it's not the same effect. SGA started with s8 of SG-1, so I'd recommend starting SGA then. Check your local library, it'll be faster than Netflix (unless Stargate's on instant download from NF now? I don't know).
