Default Shouldn't the Ancient's be spread more because they're always being annahilated?

Recently I'm being reaquainted with the Macross with the new anime Macross Frontier.

In the middle of Macross, Earth got orbitally blasted by 5 million ships leaving only a million survivors.

What remained of the UN government with their new Zentradi allies, who integrated to human society, formulated a plan so that the human race would never have to face extinction again.

    The colonization plan.

Utilizing city ships with armed military escorts humanity would spread around the galaxy ensuring that all their eggs are not in one basket.

Now seeing that basically the Ancients faced annahilation three times that we know of.

Wouldn't it be smart of them to spread around the galaxies so they wont be extinguished in one galaxy?

We know there was at least one other city ship in the Pegasus besides Atlantis.

check out the fleet's we have three or more tribes of ancients which have survived.

You are the fifth race, your role is clear, if there is any hope in preserving the future it lies with you and your people ~ 8years for those words

They had more of a Safety in Numbers ideology

Kicked out of their Home Galaxy by Religious Fanatics...
    Faced a Plague...
Laid Siege to by the Wraith...
Back to the Plague Galaxy to Ascend...

However, if they had decided to spread to the Milky Way and Pegasus before the Ori/Alteran split, they would probably still have encountered the Plague and accidentally created the Wraith. Disaster seems to strike wherever the Ancients go! (Usually brought upon them by themselves, however...).

Presumably, their numbes were simply too low to create something like Macross style colonization... you have to remember that they got devastated by the plague so perhaps their numbers just got about right when the Wraith war came about.

Mind you the Ancients don't seem to think on the level that Earth Humans do so thats another factor to consider why they didn't consider such a tactic.
