    Question Symbol position

Does anyone know whether which of the following to options is generally considered to be the convention: Each symbol spins on the inner track until it is under the next light to light up or each symbol spins in the inner track until it is under the top light. Of course, I wondered this while watching the pilot so it is very possible that they had just not established conventions yet.

I am almost 100% certain it is the second one. When the gate is doing manual dial (meaning not using a dhd so the inner track is spinning) the symbol is moved to underneath the top chevron, where it is locked in (with the top chevron moving to indicate it has been locked). When the top chevron does this the chevron next in the sequence lights up (meaning if dialing the fourth symbol in the sequence, the fourth chevron will light up when the symbol is locked in underneath the top chevron)

I never noticed they always stopped under the top chevron but I think you might be right.

Each symbol on the mobile inner wheel is locked by the top chevron, which is the only one with a moving part. When it locks a symbol, one of the other chevrons lights up to indicate that one "number" has been "dialed".
