Hardly undress. A Wraith would have the strength to easily rip Ford's vest and shirt off him.

I do think the Wraith need skin connact with their victim but for the women it would be easy to just rip their shirt and keep their bra on. We have seen the Wraith suck the life from the top of peoples chests before so it shouldnt be a problem.

While I'm a big fan of female nudity, I agree with Mr. Wright in that the scene in question from Children of the Gods is jarring and doesn't fit with the rest of the show. If the rest of the series had been filmed with that sort of tone, that would be one thing. But as it stands, I won't miss that shot at all.

That scene wasn't even remotely sexual, it was parasite getting a better look at a potential host. Considering it was also designed to show how vulnerable and helpless she was, showing her bare really was appropriate.

The problem I have with Wright's argument is that he is justifying violence and trashing nudity in the name of *this being a family show*. I would rather my daughter not see either of those things until she is a tad bit older, or more like WAY older.
To me, he is saying it is ok for kids to see violence, death, torture, blood, guts, etc, but not something as harmless as a naked body. And I am not talking about sex. A naked body is not going to give kids nightmares.

Since this is a forum dedicated to Stargate, I wonder if I'd be allowed to post screencaps from this highly controversial scene?

As much as more nudity might occasionally make sense, from a production standpoint, I don't think actors and actresses appreciate it. I know Amanda Tapping was uncomfortable in her scene in New Order, and I'm sure she's not the only one.

But really, most kids and even preteens aren't exposed to nudity in normal life—people go around clothed pretty much all the time—so it makes sense for a "family" show to not have nudity.

Exactly my thinking when creating this thread. Stargate does have violence (medium at most) and if kids are able to the violence then there really shouldnt be a problem with nudity.

Violence is a far bigger problem in society than nudity and its time tv producers realised this.

That depends where you live, surely? I've recently been to see a film here in Germany with a 12 rating featuring a scene of oral sex - although the actual scene showed them talking, it is very clear what they were doing. There were kids in the audience who were clearly younger than 12 (since the law here allows parents to make the final decision, as long as they accompany the kids).

The scene involved a man and a woman. You didn't see (as far as I recall) anything that you couldn't see at the beach (not a topless one, a normal beach) or swimming pool. I was a little shocked that nobody wondered about kids seeing the film.

Then I mentioned that I'd taken the Gruesome Twosome to see The Golden Compass. The younger Gruesome is 9. And people asked me if I thought that was wise, given the blood and gore in the film.

In America I think the reactions would have been the other way round. Other countries might think one or both scenarios are disagreeable.

Torchwood came with a whole other agenda!

                          ^^^^^SPOILER! Too big >.<

Nudity like that is acceptable, as it doesn't show anything. But I HATE COTG where shei s nude. That is X rated in my book.

I also think it is a double standard that they can show men without shirts, but not women. And, women in swim suits is ok, but underwear freaks people out.

X rating is reserved for actual sexual acts (in other words pornography). In COTG there was nothing sexual about the scene which means at most it would get a M rating. Stargate is a M15+ tv show so the kind of nudity which was in COTG would not raise Stargate's rating level.

In Australia i have seen nudity on PG rated shows which is the 2nd lowest rating possible.

Wrong scene. The comment you are quoting was made in relation to another example that the origial poster brought up in the course of the discussion, from "The Tower" in Atlantis, I believe.

Not that the scene from "Children of the Gods" would lose much were the nudity moment taken out.

Clanger- Germany is warped the other way. There's literally no escape from nudity and sexual content on German TV past a certain hour in the evening. Random zapping gives you about a 50:50 chance to stumble upon a pair of breasts. After a while it desensitizes you to the degree that the only thought you get at the sight of boobs are purely gastronomical- "where were you when I was two months old and hungry?" On the other hand, it is ridiculously difficult to find a toy gun or tank for sale outside of Russian or Turkish immigrant shops.
If Algeria introduced a resolution declaring that the earth was flat and that Israel had flattened it, it would pass by a vote of 164 to 13 with 26 abstentions.- Abba Eban.
