Hi y'all. I had hoped to get along to the Pegasus 3 convention this weekend (which featured Torri Higginson and Paul McGillion, two of our audio series 'voices') but it didn't happen; so instead I'm going to drop some more news in here about the audios...

Regarding extra content, I've now been told that Big Finish intend to include an exclusive interview on each disc. There may be out-takes too, depending on permissions from the actors.

BF also hope to produce a special subscribers-only disc, similar to the premiums made available on the Doctor Who audio range. This will be made available to purchasers who buy a subscription to releases from the Big Finish site.

And I can also say that we're already moving forward with our next set of six releases...

    Out Now:
Stargate Universe: Air, Stargate Atlantis: Nightfall, Stargate SG-1: Relativity and Stargate Atlantis: Halcyon (from Fandemonium Books)
Stargate SG-1: Half Life, Stargate SG-1: First Prime, Stargate Atlantis: Zero Point and Stargate SG-1: Shell Game (from Big Finish Productions)
"Outsiders" (Stargate: The Official Magazine #20), "Choices" (Stargate: The Official Magazine #10)

I'd have to think about the subscription thing if there are going to be exclusive stories for subscribers. I wouldn't want to miss out on anything.

As for extra content like interviews, that would also be a major bonus. Thanks.

Can non-UK folk do the subscriptions, or will we have to make do with CDs bought from Amazon and specialty sci-fi stores here in the States?

I love extra content type things, but having it on a disc makes me think these stories are going to be way too short. Is the format going to be consistent, or might we get some longer ones that spread over multiple discs? I'm guessing they are going to be right at the length of a TV episode right now.

They will be around an hour each give or take 5 minutes. Gift of the Gods is at about 57 minutes. I don't know if there are plans for double disc releases.

    Cheers.

You should remember that you can fit quite a bit on a CD; if they make it a dual-format disc (audio and data) then they'd be able to fit about 2 hours of audio on with space left for a heck of a lot of additional features...if it's audio-only then there's room for a good 4 hours if you know how to compress files properly (without losing quality) and create discs properly.

Thanks, good to know. Im excited for these.

And Jaymach, I don't know what you mean by an audio-only disc going 4 hours. I have never seen that. Yes, if it were a data disc they can put more on, but I highly doubt that they would sell CDs that people cant play in their standard CD players.

Well the easiest way to do it is to create an MP3 CD rather than an audio CD...they're basically data CD's that play in newer (last 2 years or so, some older) players and so rely on the 700MB limit rather than the 74 minute limit. Short of doing that though, there are some optimizers out there that can greatly increase the amount of time you have on a regular audio CD by using weird forms of compression and "doubling up" audio in a layer so that it basically plays twice, but has a different track the second time...I honestly don't understand it too well, but it's fun to use.

Crazy, Im going to have to research that. I know about MP3 discs, but my player doesn't do that, so I will try out the other.

Back on topic. I initially was hoping these would be full cast productions, but really, I vastly prefer my audiobooks read by one person over the full cast productions. Granted, these aren't exactly audiobooks, but I am hopeful.

Audio dramas, and Stargate audiobooks are going to be of this kind, are really great thing, I enjoy very much to listening to such things on the radio very often. And here there is a link to an audio play featuring Claudia Black (she recorded it several years ago with her "Farscape" colleague Anthony Simcoe - http://download.yousendit.com/38E0AE2F68BC15A5
    Enjoy listening!

I think it's cool that Stargate's going to have audiobooks! I've never listened to audiobooks before, so I honestly have no idea what exactly to expect, but I hope that they'll be great! I think I'll enjoy them very much.

My mom was just watching me read this thread and she said, "What, Stargate has audiobooks now? Oh, God, you'll be wanting those next, won't you?" Yep.

3 Line Script Clip: Stargate Atlantis Audio Adventures

Today's preview is from my entry in the forthcoming Stargate Atlantis audio series from Big Finish. Here's three randomly chosen lines of dialogue from the script for Zero Point.

"How often does a ‘nothing’ wind up being a ‘something’?"

"We have to contact Atlantis! We have to warn them!"

"I’m sorry, but I can’t come to the phone right now, because my fingers have fallen off from frostbite!"

Thanks for the news. I assume the Duration of 70' approx
    means 70 minutes?
