My smuttier stuff will soon be on AO3 (Archive of our own); I took it down from ff.net due to rumors of a "smut sweep" that'll be going on soon.

I prefer the AO3 format, too. Much more user friendly, easier to navigate and publish. What does FF.net consider smutty anyway? Isn't that what the ratings guides are for? Smacks of censorship to me. I only publish there if I remember. AO3 is much easier.

Detailed descriptions of sox or violence is what ff.net's TOS say you can't post (even though everyone does). Which is going to kill my ratings there, and, in fact, already has. I had to remove around 20 stories--some PWP, some not, and I still have to remove ITB (see siggie) and two novels of my Robin Hood trilogy because I chose not to close the bedroom door. I mean, seriously--could you close the door on this?

Technically, I did violate the TOS, but this site is notorious for having owners who don't pay any attention to it AT ALL. Emailing for help or to ask a question is harder than getting the proverbial camel through the eye of a needle (don't know why you'd want to do that, but I didn't write that story) and when you DO finally find out how to contact them, there is NEVER a response. They say that stories must meet other requirements, like proper use of grammar, spelling, etc and suggest using betas, and yet, ff.net is rife with stories full of misspellings and improper grammar; the beta thing is a joke, as anyone can sign up to be one, whether or not they can even spell (ie: "strengths: spelling; grammer" **rolls eyes**).

Hyn: Sorry, blonde moment last night. I was feeling poorly and my brain stepped out for some fresh air. We ARE befriended on LJ! If the stories are there, they'll be under the tag for the character and/or the rating. I've got to go through and tag by title, I think.

I have to say, personally I don't write PWP and ... I trend to close the door . Sometimes I read some nice porn and it's okay with me that such stories are around. Why not? As for ff.net ... well, as a German fanfic-writer I think those rules are to protect younger writers. I'm also member of a German fanfic-database and the most members there are between 12 - 25. And, heck, we have some huge chats about PWP (which is now forbitten to post there), porn and *seriously* torture (with and without rape). As mostly a whumper it would kill nearly every of my stories there IF they would decide to forbit torture. But the owners also provide another possibility: to post "adult"-stories under a special tag so no one is able to read them if he/she cannot confirm his/her age as 18+.
I'm wondering why ff.net isn't able to develope something similiar, so they would be on the safe side - well, mostly .

Ao3, as said before, isn't an option for me because of some people over there I know from a fanwar 5 years ago. As they always try to make my life hard to me it's better I stay away from Ao3, no matter how cool, user-friendly or whatever it will be *shrugs*. At the moment it's hard enough for me that I have to deal with them at the German BingBang at LJ

I've heard alot of grumbling about FF.net for awhile now. It serves it's purpose and is where I first published but AO3 is much easier and I like the features better. I think the only complaint I have is alot of authors tend to rate their stories G as long as there is no explicit sex. Language and adult situations I would not consider G in a million years. Was a bit concerned but I also figure, if you're a parent you ought to be closely monitoring what your kid is reading on the internet anyway.
I'm with you on the grammar and spelling. Nothing pulls you out of a story faster than constant misspelling and grammar that makes you cringe.
