I teach in high school. Teenagers love using bad language. Mostly it is an indication that they don't know anything better to say. I have to agree that it's a sign of a limited vocabulary. That, and they seem to think it makes them seem older. If they only knew how YOUNG it shows them to be!

Are you going to badge her at AT6 Eh-T? Or just badge the writers?

When I was talking to Amanda at the Armageddon cocktail party I accidental quoted the f word in a story I was telling, clamped my hand over mouth then said "oh s***, sorry for swearing." She laughed and gave me a hug. I was mortified.

eta: when she hugged me I'm pretty sure I looked like my profile pic.

Have to say I'm quite looking forward to this new movie, its good to see Amanda doing different things, the swearing doesn't really bother because its just words of a character not Amanda.

AT's character is Diane, so I'm pretty sure they were.

On the FB page, it has a small list of some of the quotes the characters have said. It's only shocking to know we'll hear Amanda say that, and her other quote.

Maybe it's just me but I don't have a problem with it. I have been known on occassion to drop the F bomb tho I don't use it willy-nilly. There have been occassions where it's the only word I can think of to suit the moment.
And I won't apologise for it. And I don't think it makes me a bad or crude/rude/vulgar person.
Not wanting to go into explicit detail but I know that Amanda uses that word...so I'm not shocked or stunned or mortified in any way. And I don't feel any different toward her for hearing her use it...she's human.
I think having had the word explained to me...that and another word that I never use even though the Vagina Monologues explained that one to me too...I don't get myself flustered upon hearing it. Even coming from Amanda, it doesn't bother me...I say good for her.

I'm sure Amanda has heard/used the F word a gazillion times.
I just love how relaxed she is about it when around fans...part of what makes her approachable & real.
Before I get flamed for that, I don't mean that because she uses the F word she's more approachable & real...I mean that she doesn't feel she has to mind her p's & q's so carefully or put on a pretense - that's what makes her real.

Would anyone feel different about Amanda if they knew she used that word - non scripted??

also....the actors have a choice in the language they use. they can refuse to use profanity in their contract, just like they can refuse doing any nudity. it's their choice.
just had a funny thought. can you imagine them using swearing doubles when they speak? the doubles say the swear words instead of the real actor. ok, well it just struck me as a little funny.

That WOULD be hilarious! just having that one word inserted with another person's voice...*giggles*

As for the whole swearing thing, personally I don't like it as there are so many more beautiful and descriptive words to choose from! I feel that most movies that have A LOT of swear words in them could do just fine without them.

However, I do understand that sometimes, it is the only word that fits (like when you accidentally bang your toe/arm/finger on something REALLY hard). And it's hard not to swear when everyone else around you does. I am sure that the actors/directors/crew all swear regularly. I am a highschool teacher AND a semi-professional musician & sometimes, when I have been around my musician friends too long, I find myself more prone to those moments (I have always caught myself though, thank goodness) when I want to swear.

Ultimately. I guess it's up to what Amanda personally believes in, and, in the past, we've seen her choose what is best for her character and/or the story, even when it scares her so this would be much the same.

As for unscripted, she's just like you or I...everyone has their own standards.

And they have to live with not getting gigs because of their choices. Not that I don't support them but that can be how it plays out. I am sure when she was starting, that there were jobs AT didn't get because she refused to take her top off.

I have no issue with any swearing. I know that some have issues with the words as a whole (I know mumsy absolutely does not like that word. Becky once told a story where she had that word in a fic of hers and mumsy refused to even type it into the story, so she has very strong feelings about that word, and fine. I totally respect it)

Sometimes I wonder if AT doesn't mind stepping out of her rather 'good' shoes and dabbling with the dark and dangerous characters.

Loving the set pics. Thanks, RoX! I'm happy for AT to get to play something new. I know she likes Magnus, but actors do like to branch out. I still hold out some hope for Season 5 though, too.

If they're short on investors/funding for a new season of Sanctuary then perhaps AT is willing to receive (even) less pay if that means they can come up with a fifth season... in that case, she can use all the money she can get with other jobs, like Space Milkshake and Random Acts of Romance.

Look, I am no saint but I very very rarely swear. That is my choice.

Won't badge the writers, just probably won't see the movie. Overall, it does not really seem like my cup of tea. To each their own and this is not for me. While there are circumstances where swearing would be part of the story (prison movies for example) frankly most movies use bad language in the same way teenagers do. Shock value or lack of ability to come up with something intelligent to say.

As for badging AT, in truth, no one is immune from the badge!

I always use the Harrison Ford version of 'The Fugitive' as a classic example of how you can make a good suspenseful crime movie without the excessive use of language.

For the record, I have heard Amanda use 'that' word in the course of a conversation, when she was describing a particularly difficult encounter she had had. She immediately apologised (and was forgiven - I think I might have sworn myself under the circumstances!)

I'm sure if you did badge her, she would find some way to get back at you...
