I'm a little confused - bourne from the details about the 3rd series!!!

Some of the details mentioned on gateworld have confused me, especially spoilers from producers/writers about the 3rd series.

They say

that the 3rd series involves "the 9th chevron." and gateworld says fans have often wondered why the ancients built stargates with these when only 7 are used for gate addresses. Well, it may be me being stupid, but i can only ever see 8 on any stargate pics ive seen!!!!

An I being stupid, or is there something Im misreading here??????

Well from what I understand, one of the CGI studios often mis-renders the Gates. The physical gate should have all 9, but the bottom chevrons are concealed by the ramp in the SGC, and underground on some offworld sites. In the eps we've seen SG-1 launch MW gates into space it should portray 9 chevrons.
