Default Isn't the fact that ...

Scifi hasn't renewed BSG for a 4th season a pretty good indicator that they are seriously considering cancelling the show, along the switched time slots, no talk of a DVD release of season 3.0, and no more talk of Caprica. I mean I am so sure that the show will be cancelled that I willing bet money on it. That article about them not cancelling it did not convince me at all.

Fans should go ahead and start a Save the Show Campaign like on the SGA board.

No, not really. DVD's are never talked about until the season is over, Caprica was always a long-shot, and if it happens, it won't be until 2008-2009. Season renewal? That might not even happen until the season is over.

There are no "set rules" to this kind of stuff.

Of course the show could be cancelled, but because scifi has yet to bring up these points isn't saying "yes, it's over".

They didn't renew last season if memory serves till' the last minute. I think there will be a fourth season and that will unfortunatly be the final one.

But I also believe in Unicorns and Dragons, so take it for what it's worth!

If renewal will happen, I think the big looking point will be how tonights episode performes. Last week was not a very good measure, with 40 million people watching CBS. If the show (and the rest of the season) can manage above 1.3, another season will come.

I hope BGS does get cancelled. Think about, it's a good thing. NBC has already expressed some desire to take the show. If Sci Fi stops renewing it, then NBC can easily take it, and Sci Fi can't prevent it.

Once BSG is gone from Sci Fi, then surely the network would collapse. With both Stargate SG-1 and BSG gone, they've lost their two biggest shows. Most of their viewers will stop watching and the network will go down the drain where it belongs.

NBC owns Sci-Fi, I think they can take it away any time they want to. And that was only a rumour to begin with.

Isn't it weird that a scifi channel has cancelled/not renewed yet 2 massive scifi shows. Lesson to be learned for any new scifi series: if you want to be aired don't go to scifi.

And airing on broadcast is any better? SG-1/SG-A/BSG would be cancelled after about two episodes on the major networks.

As annoying as it may be, Scifi channel is the only place a scifi show can go to thrive. And when I say Scifi show, I mean Scifi show. Many people keep called shows like Lost and Heroes scifi, when they are not. Kinda of like BSG, they are mainly dramas with scifi/fantasy thown in for good measure.

I keep on reading that Skiffy will make a formal announcement around mid-February and people posting as insiders or those that know insiders (for whatever that's worth) are saying that a s4 is go. No exact links to provide (so grain of salt), just what I vaguely remember from other boards.

    I'm still optimistic about s4.

Then I highly suggest that you don't watch Heroes because I like that show and it would be a real shame to have to hunt you down and do you significant harm.
As it is, I'm on a winning streak with my choices for the year...they're doing ok. Don't mess with it.

I agree with that. As much as Scifi has irked me in the past, they have been showing improvement over the past year. Stargate & BSG are good but they are not the only shows out there. I would be disappointed if they made the choice to pull BSG but if it means they are making way for other attempts at original scifi programming then yay...if not, screw em. The major networks aren't the best environment for Scifi or Scifi-ish shows as has been proven no less than five times over the past two years.

    I can help if needed.
My choices this year are also doing fine, including Heroes.
    Love that show ...

NBC doesn't even seem interested in BSG, so I highly doubt they care if it gets canceled or not.

I'd say it's up in the air.

Reasons for it renewal exist, and are damned good ones given the rumblings of a movie between season 3 and 4, the script for caprica was turned in and I think was sent for further rewrites -- not to mention that adama's upcoming flashback episode might even be a back door pilot for caprica.

On the other hand, SciFi channel has a history of stomping struggling shows out of existence without consideration of age or quality just because the ratings dipped. I suspect there is talks with the show producers into cutting costs and making the show more entertaining and exciting for audiences (might explain the spike in love triangles and soap opera scenes) while the producers might be asking for better advertising and timeslots (rdm and eick should be demanding the eureka timeslot or eureka lead-in!).

plus, one thing I have noticed, is that networks will often drag out talks with the show producers to the point of minutes on the clock to force the show producers to give in to the network demands.

Someone here linked a radio interview with the actor that plays Chief, in it he said the actors contracts end Febuary 18th. Take that as you will. I hope there is at least a 4th season so if its the last they can do a miniseries to end it up.

Actually, they have presented interest in it. I mean, BSG I believe, is the first Sci Fi show that has reached mainstream success. It's something that NBC might want to keep.

SciFi is in a bad place right now.

Honestly, I've not started watching any SciFi's new shows as their track record shows I'll be left in the lurch when a good show is cancelled.

Breaking up SciFi Friday was a mistake. Starting Friday off with Heroes, going into the Stargates and finishing off with the less kid friendly BSG just made me look forward to Friday.

I am afraid they'll "Farscape" BSG for us, leave the story hanging. The Neilson ratings system isn't impressing me. I know lots of people watching BSG and Heroes, people that normally aren't scifi fans. Several of those started watching SG1 and Atlantis because they aired on the same night. Around here, SciFi was making ground, but I've never even seen a Neilson box in this area.

They'll keep it up, their core audience won't have a reason to watch the network, then where will they be? It seems most of us are looking for a good story, not 2 hours worth of half breed dragon/bigfoot/misquito/snake/bat, which is what they air the rest of the time...
