Default Is it just me or does SG-1 no longer...

Is it just me or does SG-1 no longer feel like Stargate. I caught up on some of the newer episodes from this season, and i was shocked when i realized i wasn't too into the episodes, didn't really feel like stargate to me, it felt like i was just watching some scifi show on scifi channel which just happened to star tealc, daniel and sam.

The badguys don't seem so menacing, ya, they can destroy the entire universe without breaking a sweat, but you know sg-1 is gonna prevail. with the goa'uld it was a different story, they were a very unpredictable enemy. didn't know exactly how they would be defeated. that is why stargate sg-1 lasted so long, cuz they had an enemy that was engaging and could last 8-9 seasons. the goa'uld were very multi-leveled, ya they wanted to be warshipped as gods, but they very complex and they each had they're unique traits and personalities. i don't think the ori could last half that long, they have one motive and that is to be treated like gods...and that's all that there is to them...all the same character...they could have saved money by just casting 1 actor for the part of the ori/pryors.

the music: oh i loved the original music score for the show, when i heard the themes for certain characters, or the fight scene music, i knew it was stargate! ITS LIKE IF THE STAR WARS' SCORE WAS REPLACED WITH THE MATRIX SOUNDTRACK. just wouldnt work.

and the worm hole! why oh why did they change it? I could understand for Atlantis or traveling to pegasus galaxy from milky way & vise versa. I loved the original one, with the screeching noise.

Don't get me wrong, i still love the show, i'll watch it til I'm 100 years old, but i'm glad scifi pulled the plug. they made the right decision, and it's time for the greatest show in the world to come to an end.

I don't agree, but there are many who do.

I don't get this. Since when did we know that SG1 would fail? The good guys always win at the end, and it's kinda naive in "normal" Sci-fi like Stargate to think otherwise.

Is this a complaint? They didn't change the music...

There are many who feel like you...

    But me personally

I feel the ori can be just as good as the goa'uld if not better.

Were seeing planets and races who could stand up to the goa'uld are now being defeated by the ori.(Herbidan is an example) The good guys really arent winning right now. Plus now the writers have to come up with really creative thing to defeat the ori.

I loved the Pegausus Project as it is in my Stargate top 5.

Of course with the Goa'uld there were many different bad guys but we do have The Priors, The Doci, and Adria with the ori.

Of course i wouldnt have been mad if they would have just stuck with the Goa'uld but im happy with the Ori as well.

Its just sad that the show had to end prematuraly. I believe it should have gone on to season 12 and then ended. This way the ori and all storylines could have been wrapped up in a better way.

Dont get me wrong. I loved teh Goa'uld i just love the ori too.

I think you're right about the personality thing. The Goa'uld all had really great personalities. Over-the-top, in-your-face, wild personalities, but personalities. The Ori seem so bland in that area. They're pitiless in killing entire populations, but unlike the Goa'uld, they don't even seem to take any *pleasure* in being evil.

I think it SG-1 ended when RDA left, and that season 9 and 10 act as a spin-off (although still provide kick ass entertainment). Mitchell, Vala and Landry have changed the setting, and I've also noticed that the original team members have changed and matured since the parting of the ways after the events of Moebius (which in thier timeline, they found a ZPM and went fishing). Sam seems different somehow(her voice seemed different?), Daniel doesn't share the comedy with O'Neill anymore, Teal'c no longer has the best friend moments with O'Neill anymore and all because O'Neill isn't in it anymore.

    Bum.

But season 9 and 10 are good never the less....I just prefer the old gang, and miss the moments where they were amushed by Jaffa and had an all-out rumble...(I LOVED SEASON 9's 'STRONGHOLD')

It's not just you. It doesn't feel like "Stargate: SG-1" anymore to me.

I also have to disagree. The past two seasons have been very good. Not only did we make enemies the same way we always do, by trying to copy our rights onto those of alien civilizations, and making Earth eventually seem weak, and open to conquest. Also, The team does have a different dynamic, but I think it is very close knit, as they are trying to fix what they broke. Finally, We don't know that we will defeat the Ori, at least in the storyverse. They are confident, but currently we are getting murdered. Look at Ethon and Camelot. They don't do much for morale.

You are right about it not feeling like SG-1 any more.

It's because the past two seasons we've been watching Stargate Command and not SG-1. The focus on the military has been thrown out the window, and now we get mainly spaceship battles with long stories arced over a few episodes about another Indiana Jones adventure (that's what some of them feel like to me) and less and less of that good old round thing called the stargate.

Not that I dislike the new series, but I miss SG-1 a lot (mainly the RDA and team dynamic).

Jackson and Mitchell have a good dynamic, not as good as O'Neill and Jackson but it works. The SG-1 feeling seems to be dimming slowly. And it almost seems as if Jackson is taking charge of the team. Anyone else get that feeling too?

Personally, I'm actually loving things more now than I have for quite awhile on this show. I think the past season and a half have been brilliant. It still feels like SG-1 to me.

I have liked the last two seasons a lot. The story arc has been pretty good thus far. Introducing all the new characters was not an easy thing to do, and they did that as well as they possibly could.

Oddly enough, the seems to have gone back to the old, more action based formula now. SG-1 started to lack that as RDA reduced his presence on the show.

Still feels like SG-1 too me

Gotta remember before Earth was protected so SG-1 could afford to just go be explorers - but now Earth is in danger and they have to rush - they can't just be explorers, their on a mission.

As for spaceships, natural evolution + a way to expand the horizon...kinda like Deep Space Nine

I partially agree with you. Following it through the years has made it seem no different. You change, adapt and develop along with the show and don't really notice any real difference... its a consequence of ten years of television.

However, I watched the season one finale arc the other day and was astonished by how different the show was. The Go'ould weren't just a joke - they really were a scary and powerful enemy, traditional SG-1 was at large and watching Earth face imminent danger was REALLY exciting and SG-1's tactics were so Earth-like. It really was a splash of cold water which reminded me why I fell in love with SG-1 to begin with.

Sorry but i have been watching STARGATE SG-1 and STARGATE ATLANTIS for the past 12 years of so , when ever the movie came out at least , I have been a big fan and loved ever show they have done todate .... I have even got a few of the guys i work with into STARGATE , by letting them watch my collection , and now they have there own collection of DVD Boxsets as well ..

As for the STORY ARK of the Ori , i think its been great show far , they didnt want to make the Ori feel big right from the start , and looks like they wanted to have the Ori GROW as the New Power house in STARGATE .. I cant wait to see the second half of STARGATE SG-1 and ATLANTIS , and hope the movies are 3 to 4 hours long ... Cant wait to see those next year .

Also a side note i really hope MGM does straight to DVD instead of letting Sci-Fi show it first ..

I started watching from the beginning of season 1 and I never liked the Go'auld, I found them boring myself. Personally season 9 and 10I think are the best the shows had, I love the Ori. I dont care about enemies with "personalities" either, I judge on Power, destruction ect and they are an enemy that have that. I like how the humans are losing too. I think it would be great if earth gets destroyed in the end and the good guys lose, would make a change IMO. Episodes like season9's "Beachhead" really blew me away. Ori get the job done without any emo-drivel and I like em for it. Its nice to see on this forum that some people at least seem to agree with me, as everyone I spoke to didnt like the new direction. For me its closer to what I want to see on sci-fi tv.
