Default Doctor Who picked up w/1.5 average, magical mark for SG1?

Of couse Sci-Fi is producing SGs, thus costing more.... but I wonder what broadcast rights cost?

Anyway could be a good sign....

"The first season of Doctor Who was one of SCI FI's most successful international or off-network acquisitions ever, averaging 1.5 million viewers each week."

Same here, I enjoyed it as well. It will be airing when SGs is off....

I always wondered how SciFi could air nonrepeats all year long(with BSG,SG1 and SGA) You would have to drop the dual new showings of one of the SG to make it work.
But now I think they could be going like this...

    SGs July-Sept / Dr Who Sept-Jan / BSG Oct-March / SGs March-July
So at least one show will always be showing new episodes.

According to that article, some have stated BSG will help SGs ratings, well they won't air new episodes at the same time, ever, this year.... or next possibly.

Have all the current seasons episodes been finalized? With a 6 month hiatus it could very well be some time for them to write a good ending for the show...

I don't think we will see the show getting picked up untill after december this year.

Well, executives tend to be stupid, greedy, forgetful and short-sighted, to name just a few of their more admirable traits.

Doctor Who garnered a 1.5, which is the high mark, which means they're not expecting the show to do much better than that. Should this season fail to reach the 1.5 area (say it hovers around a 1.2 or lower) I'd be willing to bet that they'd consider the show a failure and not buy the third season.

The Gates used to have higher ratings, which have slipped over the past two years and continue to slip this season. The sponsers see this, and they assume fewer people are watching, which means fewer people are going to see their commercials, which means fewer people are going to buy their products. They don't see this as returning to the norm after the shows enjoyed a brief period of high popularity, they see it as a failure.

Bottom line, they think they're making back less money than they were when the show was more popular. If they can't make a certain profit level, they're not going to bother.

The key isn't to flood NBC Universal or Sci-Fi with with e-mails and letters. That's like asking the bullet not to shoot you. You have to ask the person holding the gun.

You've got to tell the sponsers that you'll continue to support them.

You seem to be missing a few shows, like the BSG spin off and Eureka, plus whatever other new shows Sci-fi has in development (New B5?,starwars series? or does scifi have no chance to score either of those?) or whatever old or foriegn shows they can buy. They do not need the SGs to fill out their non-repeat schedule.
Joseph Mallozzi -"In the meantime, I'm into season 5 of OZ (where the show takes an unfortunate hairpin turn into "the not so wonderful world of fantasy")"

^^^ Kinda sounds like seasons 9 and 10 of SG-1 to me. Thor, ya got Aspirin?

AGateFan has officially Gone Fishin (with Jack, Sam, Daniel, Teal'c) and is hoping Atlantis does not take that same hairpin turn.

Don't forget their dubious creature features, sorry Sci Fi Original Movies.
2 hours of programming time (and innumerable repeats) for less than the cost of one episode of SG-1.

I just mean Sci-Fi Fridays, but I suppose those shows could be moved over.
When is the new series for BSG to be launched? I didn't think it was concrete yet?

I love the new Dr. Who. I think it's a much better "other" show for scifi fridays than BSG. I'm glad they're going to keep it for season 2, however, I don't know if I'll like season 2. The Doctor from season 1 was great, I don't know how the new one can match him.

I'd love to see Fridays have:

    8:00 - Doctor Who
    9:00 - SG1
    10:00 - SGA

Doctor Who is a very family oriented show and putting it on with the very adult BSG seems, well. . .foolish.

When all else fails, change channels.

I said this on another forum, but pairing BSG and Dr. Who is not the greatest move. BSG is going to make DW look like crap in comparison, acting, effects, story's. DW is a fun little show on it's own, but it's nowhere near the qualiity of BSG.

Good to hear season 2 of Dr. Who has been picked up, but like some of the other posters, it doesn't belong on the viewing schedule with BSG (and I love BSG). I agree it fits better alongside the Stargates on the schedule, as it would make a great "family night". Dr. Who and BSG together is a bit schizo.

I agree. The level of pretentiousness is much lower on Doctor Who than it is on Galactica.

The long and short of it is that Doctor Who really is the first sci-fi show. It pre-dates Star Trek by three years and ran for twenty-six years before being cancelled the first time. It belongs on the Sci-Fi channel. Years before Vulcans had ears, Daleks had pepper pots.

I always considered Sci-Fi to be incomplete without it.

I agree having Dr. Who and BSG on together is stupid, but I disagree with your comparison. I loved season 1 of Dr. Who. It was a great show, and I think it fits with in on SciFi fridays with Stargate better than BSG. BSG was something I'd occasionally be able to watch, while waiting for the next Stargate episode, but it wasn't a great show. It was confusing and hard to get into if you didn't watch it from the first episode, I hate the annoying, retarded, random zoom ins and shaky camera (if I want to see that, I can just get out my camera and screw around with it), I hated their idiotic made up swear word "frack", and the overabundance of nudity/sex seemed like a cheap way to attract viewers.

My comparisons have nothing to do with all the things you just complained about.

Your saying DW has better acting, effects, and stories? The stories part can be entirely based on opinion, but, hehe, no. The CGI and acting in BSG is top notch, anyone who watches the show knows that. I can't say the same for DW, which to me is nothing but silly "fluff".

Er, this is also in response to -PITBULL- and Chricton's posts as well.

Doctor Who is geared toward a general audience so the closest you'll get to T&A is women with shirts too damn low and as for production values and such, it's the bloody BBC. I don't think they have the same budget and such as Sci-fi's stuff. :P

I dunno. The "cheaper" looking stuff even in this day and age never really bothered me. (On a similar but unrelated and rather pointless note, I'd like to point out that aesthetics and pretty graphics don't make a video game either.)

But yeah, spiffy looking show paired with not-as-spiffy-looking show is not a good thing overall.

Not sure getting the older Who stuff would be a smart move since I'm not sure if cheap effects, bad hairdos, and rubber costumes for monsters are really the in thing these days. :3 Also, it'd probably only cater to the old school crowd rather than gain a wider audience base/appeal to the current generation. (I haven't done my research but I take it the bulk of the viewers range from ages 15 - 30 or so?)

Random: I'm not quite sure Doctor Who is really comparable to Star Trek. :P

I'm not a bsg fan as it doesn't appeal to me but dr.who is great and the stories are just as good and better as other scifi shows including stargate. Acting, well it's bound to be different as all the actors are english, but again just as good as any other scifi show. CGI I'll give to you but only as DW doesn't have a huge budget like BSG.
