First things first. I thought Warrick's planet didn't have a stargate.

Looks like here in Season 7 it's turning into take-turns-to-be-center-of-story. If the last one as Daniel, then this one has to be Sam, as Daniel and O'Neil effectively disappear. Not a favorite episode at all. Looks like I have to focus only on episodes where the four of them are involved. But it looks like O'Neill is in it for about 5-10 minutes an episode. Too bad.
The only interesting thing is the coexistence of humans with those of the Warrick species on the same world. I wonder how that happened.

I don't know what they were thinking with this episode. It's like a bastard offspring of Farscape and Star Trek, and I don't like it much. While it is fun, it's just too far removed from what I enjoy about Stargate. I don't know if the writer's were trying to make it cheesy (obviously, the stupid news scenes are supposed to be), but there is so much dumb writing on show here.

It bugs me that this alien planet is so similar to Earth culture, with the American stlye newscast, advertising and talk of credit ratings, telephones, etc. It's a massive misstep for the show, and I hate having all the silly looking aliens here.

On the plus side, the episode made me laugh a few times. And, I thought Amanda Tapping looked gorgeous in this one. Did anybody else get reminded of the music from Mass Effect when they were watching the race introduction video?

    RATING: 4 out of 10

This Episodes is one of my Favorites, simply because this is one of these Episodes that dont take themselfs to seriously. I was just watching it and wondering why everyone made kind of a big deal of Sam having fun? At least there were 2 scenes dedicated to the others questioning her motives and she did not admit it until the end.

For me this Episode is kind of inspired by Starship Troopers with these weird broadcasts and advertisements. Starship Troopers did that in the first and third movie and it took me very long to understand that that is supposed to be a joke and a comment on how Humans are. This Episode is pretty much the same in this sense.

Easily in my worst top 10 episodes ever...

Although if it comes on the TV I will watch it - or have it as background noise ...there are a couple of episodes that I will NEVER watch again and actually race to turn off the TV if they come on....so I guess it scores brownie points for that at least!..

This is a fun episode, not taking itself too seriously. I always laugh at Jack's line when they save Teal'c and Eamon -

Tuesday night, another ep of SG1

    1. Have to admit I hadn't expected the Srrakin to be revisted.

    2. It's the first time in ages we've really seen Sam let loose to that extent.

    3. And let's face it, it was fun though rewatching it makes the commentary look corny and with that one commentator, cold.

    4. As for the moron - the guy was being done for corruption, you'd have thought he'd have had the brains to realise why he was net getting promoted!

    5. Did anyone ever do a fanfic based on the following year's Loop?

This was a standalone but a very cool one!

For me, this one goes to 11! Nothing says Action Adventure like a space race.

    - Awesome, awesome, awesome CGI - brilliant yellows of the sunshots and flying through the ice still looks AMAZING on a 60' screen.

    - Every character was just hilarious - well played

    - Groovy and interesting make-up

    - Ardal and Coyle were even funnier the second time - apparently no matter what planet you're on its all about "who wants it the most" -- Classic! (I suspect one may have needed to watch enough Hockey Night in Canada or US pro sports to really appreciate this.)

    - Really cool engine parts and mechanisms in the shop and office gave it an authentic feeling. And they looked cool.

    - Jarlath with Warrick and Sam: the energy was so right on - the banter came off fresh and funny. Loved Jarlath's ingenious communications weapon and the funny dialogue around his talents.

I got the feeling everyone had a blast making this. I certainly had a blast watching.

Agree with Oma De Salad, this was an enjoyable, and memorable episode. In fact, it was one of the first ones I looked up to watch when I decided to start re-watching the entire stargate series again.

    This was a fun episode.

I did not realize that Peter Kelamis was in not 1 but 2 episodes of SG-1 (but as 2 different characters of course).

Also, damn, Tech Con Group has something for everything. And that TV coverage had way to many ads.

The best thing about this ep I felt was the commercialism . The ads going on in the back ground. although they appeared silly, it mirrored RL here on earth.
People are fighting for their lives in a dangerous situatuion, and someone's hawking mundane items in the background.

First thing I notice is how different Warrick looks compared to how he looked in Forsaken. I guess they did it so he didn't look so much like an Unas.

Not a bad ep. There has been a lot worse this season.

I did enjoy all the ads. And the race itself was pretty fun. I laughed at Teal'c trying to get out of going with Jack and Daniel.

    My LiveJournal post

This episode isn't all that bad.

    "Shut up, Jarleth!"
    "Thanks to denial, I'm immortal."
"A big 'Hello' to all intelligent life out there, and for everyone else, the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys!"
"Excuse me, barmaid? You seem to have brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra large boy with beefy arms, extra guts and glory on the side. This here, this is a talking fishbone!"
"I'm Jack. It means... what's in the box?"

A fun episode, just great to see Sam have a lot of fun, purely in the course of research of course!!!

The various stages of the race were well done and it did capture the daredevil nature of it. I liked the idea that the commercialised society was much like Earth with more advanced technology, a sort of fun glimpse into the future. It's just spaceships instead of cars!

I actually don't hate this episode. You have to take the episode when watching with the mood the episode. A serious episode that judges the mortality of genocide like Sorched Earth is going to be judged differently then an episode that shoots cracks like Window of Opportunity. And that is what Space Race is. Its not meant to be taken seriously. Its a humor episode to show insight into Serrikian society. And that is why I like it. I like the humor and jabs made by Warrick and Sam and the fake commericals shown through the race, It was also interesting to see how the society was run. It seems to be largely captialist base which is unique for SG1 advanced societies.

I've been re-watching SG-1 from the beginning and just finished this episode. I enjoyed it for the most part. I think if there was one less commentator clip it would have been better :-)

The world looked awesome though with tons of technology and culture to investigate I would think we would have a permanent SG team on this planet!

If there has to be an ep concentrating on one of the characters, then I'm glad to see one about Sam... Although I do miss the group episodes a lot...

But anyway, I like this episode. It's fun and mostly I usually prefer the non-goa'uld episodes.. I liked all the jokes, I liked lots of Sam, I liked the very futuristic look of the world.. I think the only thing I didn't like was the commentators. It really annoyed me that on an alien planet there would be such similar broadcasts to the North American ones, when even on earth that is not the case..

I liked this ep for the way in which it puts forth society, busy pushing consumerism. We can laugh at the commercials, but then realize it isn't much different than the world we live in. Put in the context of the Space Race, they show the comic reality that is our world also.

I laughed my way through this one. So did Amanda

(I must say, it was a bit under average)
