with Warner Bros.' "Smallville," which was down 5 percent to a 1.8. Sony's
"Stargate: Atlantis" hit a new syndicated high, growing 6 percent to a 1.8.

drawing 629,000 (3.8%) at 8pm ahead of a new episode of troubled sci-fi series
Threshold, which dropped off to 363,000 (2.1%). Topical profile George Best -
Football Genius closed off prime with 245,000 (1.7%).

Next in line were DaVinci's Inquest at a 2.0, matching its season high and up 5% for the week, followed by Smallville at a 1.7, down 11% and tied with Star Trek: Enterprise, up 42% to a season high after recording a season low the previous week (ratings for weekly shows can be volatile since a single preemption can knock their ratings for a loop). Stargate: Atlantis was unchanged at a 1.6.

The three rookie first-run strips were all down for the week ended Feb. 5, while first-season off-network strips were uniformly flat. The week was also a milestone for Paramount's "Entertainment Tonight," which clocked its 500th consecutive week as the top-rated syndicated newsmagazine.

Tying "Alias" was Program Partners' "Da Vinci's Inquest," down 5 percent. Warner Bros.' "Smallville" was up 6 percent to a 1.8, Sony's "Stargate: Atlantis" declined 6 percent to a 1.5 and Paramount's "Star Trek: Enterprise" dropped 7 percent to a 1.3.

E4 took 191,000 for an Invasion repeat in the 9pm hour before falling to 108,000 for Chantelle's Dream Dates at 10. A first-look Desperate Housewives appealed to 296,000 at 11pm.

June 1 Variety reports

Among off-net weekly hour rookies, "24" took the lead at a 2.2, down 12% from its October debut. "Alias" came in at a close second with a 2.1 average, down 16% from its debut, followed by "Da Vinci's Inquest" at a 1.7, up 21% from its debut. Newcomer "Smallville" also drew a 1.7, unchanged since its September premiere. "Star Trek Enterprise" landed at a 1.4, up 17% from its debut. Also at a 1.4 was "Stargate Atlantis," down 18% from its debut. (and powerhouse CSI ... " down 10% from last year.

Note: Stargate SG-1 was not mentioned at all.

Paramount Domestic Television's digital remastering of the original Star Trek led the pack, according to the latest Nielsen weekly ratings report for the week ending Oct. 8 [2006]. Paramount returned the series to the syndication rotation after giving it a digital facelift to make it more viewer-friendly to a generation weaned on computer graphics.

Trek's 1.2 topped Stargate: Atlantis at a 1.1; Stargate SG-1 with a 1.0; and Outer Limits at a .4. It also beat the off-Si Fi Channel Farscape at a .8, though that show is classified as a general drama rather than sci-fi.

How in the world is better SFX suppose to look good next to the other cheesy stuff in the show? I guess I'll find out for myself eventually. Though I don't know why they'd mess with Perfection.

Sorry, it's going to be a mess of new CGI crud with the 'cheesy' stuff and in looking up this new and improved (snort) show, well, 3 a.m.? Guess I won't be bothering with it.

Messing with Star Wars is a big No-No in our house. Hubby's a hugh fan and has the real ones on tape. Though our son is kind of wearing them down now! May have to get theDVD sets of the original for Christmas.
3am? Okay. Spend all that money and it gets a time slot of that? I can't even get it anyway because of my lovely basic cable.
I like speical effects. I also like classic sci fi. And it shouldn't be messed with! I recently was able to get the real War of the Worlds. My son is only 6 and it scared the pants off of him! And it's even in GASP black and white.

I never bought these "remastered and improved" Star Wars films. I love the old, original versions too much to do that.
