    NPC- Dr Julianna Steele

“Yes, you are better. The MRI you did this morning, shows of improvement, but I guess you already know that, or should I say, feel that. The aneurysm has diminished in size just by giving you the Heparin, and now that you’re feeling better we can get you started on taking pills instead of giving you the medicine in an i.v. However, I want you to stay here for at least another 24 hours to monitor your blood pressure. It has been on a very good level, but then you’ve been asleep for most of the time, and I’d like to see that the pressure continues to stay this way while you’re awake, and we’ll also do some more blood testing to get you on the right dose of the new medicine.”
She let that sink in for a moment before continuing. “Now, as for the laptop. If you take it easy, and stop using when you feel tired or when the nurses tell you to stop using it, I can get someone to get it for you.”

David sighed deeply, and rubbed his brow after she'd finished talking. More blood tests. More prodding, more poking. More meds. Talk about a vacation cut short... He looked up again; hoping to convince her he'd be ok.

"Alright, doc, thanks. I'll be good. I promise. My laptop's in my lab, I've left it here when I went on vacation in Foreston, just cause I needed to clear my head, needed to get away, and next thing I know I am here again... Oh well, can't be helped, I'm sure I'll be getting more vacation later."

He wrecked his brain trying to remember the state of his lab. Orderly? Or in disarray? Probably a mix of both, it usually was tidy but then again he *had* been working on something when he'd left.... "Uh, I think I left the laptop on its charger, or I guess I could use the solar batteries... it's bright enough in here... I may need some books, too..." The last said as he was thinking about his latest project. ((ooc: what that is, I don't know. need to think... ))

    NPC – Dr Julianna Steele

Julianna looked at David’s troubled face.
“You’ll be fine. Hopefully, once you’re out of here, you don’t have to take the meds on a regular basis, more like if you’re having some kind of trauma, surgery or if you’re going to spend a lot of hours in an airplane. And as for the blood tests to get you on the right dose of medicine, as long as you’re having that i.v port” she nodded towards his right arm “we don’t have to put a needle in you every time we need a sample…”
She got up from her chair, while saying “Try and write a list of what you need from your lab and I’ll have one of the SFs to bring everything here. Do you need anything else or do you have more questions before I go and shuffle some papers?”

"Thank you, doctor. That'll be all I guess. I just need some paper for the list, then I'll be fine.". He watched her signal a nurse who then brought the paper and pen after a whispered word or two.

David started scribbling the list together : laptop, books (he specified author & title & whereabouts in lab, that little list alone contained about a dozen), writing materials and other small things.

He handed it to the doctor when finished.

"There. That should be it. If I need anything more, I'll let you know." He smiled a little, knowing it was quite a lot. He was nothing if not thorough.

Julianna looked at the list raising her brows and nodded. ”That was eh… some list. I’ll pass it on.” She walked away towards the office, mumbling “…scientists, they really…” to call for an SF and then take a closer look inside the fridge in the staff lounge.

Williams watched her go, and heard her mutter. He shook his head quietly, and smirked a little. If he was going to do his work, he needed his things. What he had asked for was just the bare minimum necessities. Yes, it was a lot, but...

He sighed, finally finished off the OJ and laid back down, waiting, idly drumming his left hand fingers on the side of the bed. To pass the time, David began cataloguing the things that needed done in his head.

    [Hallways]

Moving through the hallways of the infirmary as quickly as he could, Devin continued to mvoe until he finally ran into a nurse. It was Irving, and Devin said tersely, "Mary, I hate to be back here so soon, but it's Kylie, abdominal pains of some sort, might be related to draining that abcess. She's hurtin' bad."

    ((Well: good night then.))

    [Mary Irving NPC-Infirmary Hall]

Mary took one look at Devin's expression and knew that time was of the essence. The Almodeus that she knew wouldn't have that look for just anything. "Alright, Devin, I need you to go find Dr. Steele. She's probably in her office. Tell her what you just told me, and let her know that I'm with Kylie in the med bay." Without waiting for Devin's response, she took Kylie's wheelchair from him, and manuvered her way to hte far end of the med bay. She quickly pulled the privacy curtain around one of the beds where she could talk to Kylie and find out exactly what was wrong.

Kylie was only barely aware of the fact that Mary was taking her to one of the beds. Her eyes were still focused on Devin. She smiled at Mary despite her pain. "I think I set a new record, almost 60 hours out of the infirmary."

Mary gave Kylie a stern look. "Kylie as much as I appreciate the fact that you haven't lost your sense of humor, I need you to be serious right now. If it is further complications from the abcess, we might not have much time. I can give you something for the pain, but not until after Dr. Steele gets in here to figure out more about what's wrong."

Kylie simply nodded her head in response, allowing Mary to lift her shirt to examine the spot where the abcess had formed. "Devin just said abdominal pain. I need to know a little more about it. Is it localized or general?"

"Pretty much localized. Started mid-section, then it moved to the right. Here." She placed Mary's hand gently over the most tender part of her abdomen. Mary pushed down lightly, eliciting a small gasp from Kylie.

"Can you cough?" Mary asked seriously. Kylie did so, and the young nurse made a few notes on the clipboard that she was carrying about the high level of pain that the linguist seemed to experience as she coughed. "Kylie have you ever had your appendix removed?"

Kylie groaned aloud as Mary came to her initial conclusion. "You have got to be kidding me!"

"I'm afraid not, but we really do need to get a doctor in here sooner rather than later." Mary smiled sympathetically at Kylie and tried to help the other woman get comfortable, as they waited for Julianna.

((ooc: just thought I'd post a wee reminder. And uhm. Where would they take Kylie? to the Iso rooms? ))

    Spoiler:

David looked up as he heard and saw commotion down the hall outside the Med Bay. He stared at the sight of a wheelchair being wheeled quickly into the Infirmary, and stared further as he thought he recognised the person in the chair.

    "Kylie?"

He'd worked with the young linguist a few times, though had lost sight of her recently. They were both wrapped up in their own projects, it seemed, and he guessed something must have happened to her during his time in Foreston.

He had to talk to her. He just had to, he needed to know if she'd be okay, and what had happened.

David noticed Julia hovering about in the bay, and motioned her over.

"What's going on? Why is Kylie here? And why is she in a wheelchair?" He asked, visibly upset over the injuries of his colleague.

Hang in there, buddy. Nick took his hand out of the tank and shook off the water.
"Don't take this the wrong way Gus but, the only person that I was really concerned about is supporting me on this." A little shiver ran through him as he recalled her kiss. "As for professionally ...", he tapped the star on his collar, "there's no one who outranks me."
A few seconds later, Blue added, "You, Sharp, Hanes and Kelea have the final say on whether or not I'm doing my job properly. Janus and I already agreed that he's going to stay undercover most of the time. It's the old 'don't ask - don't tell' rule. Unless they can sense him, most people won't know he's there."

((What!? There's no exam rooms! I see editing in my future.....but I'll have to think a little more on it first. ))

    [Julia Hawkins-NPC]

Julia placed a gentle hand on David's arm. "Ms. Stevens was involved in an accident about a week ago that resulted in several internal injuries, and a broken leg. She's having to stay confined to the wheelchair until her leg heals. Several of her injures became infected and we had to drain a rather large abcess because of it. Now, I don't why she's back, the last I heard she had been released and was doing fine. My guess is that it's further complications from the abcess." Julia knew that the doctors would take good care of Kylie and it was her job now to be sure that this latest developement didn't upset David too much.

((EDIT: Ok, I think I fixed the last post, PM me if you still find any problems with it. And I'm going to wait for NG to get back before actually doing the surgery, after all Carrie's the surgeon.))

Dr David Williams - Med Bay

"Oh," said David, somewhat dejectedly. He digested the news.

"Can I visit her? Once they're finished?"

Just then, two SF's wheeled in a table filled up with all of the stuff David had asked for previously. Still reeling from the news about Kylie, David smiled weakly at the nearest SF and thanked them for their trouble. They nodded, and returned to their duties.

Devin followed Mary along until they reached a doorway, where he paused and waited for someone. Sitting there for a few minutes, Devin could hear a murmer of conversation and an exasperated groan from Kylie. Something bad probably, had to be internal, an organ perhaps, another abscess, or the appendix say? Sighing, Devin played around with his ID card, and stared at his face that was inked into its front. When're they going to let me know what's up? Devin asked himself, flipping the card around in his fingers.

((Thanks Blue Think I've got it all straight now. Vamp-you might want to check the edit of my post from last night, and if the doctor doesn't know something's wrong, then there's no help for Kylie. ))

    [NPC Julia Hawkins-Med Bay]

Julia shifted out of the way as the SFs wheeled in the supplies that David had asked. She smiled slightly and judged the cart full of books to be just about as many as Kylie had requested when she had been in the infirmary earlier. Those linguists were something else. "Visiting Ms. Stevens will be at the discretion of the doctor, but I don't think they'll have a problem with it since you're not actually leaving the infirmary." Julia thought for a minute. "I bet her boyfriend's around here somewhere, he might be able to give you more of an idea of what happened if you're really that concerned." Julia turned her head to look toward the bed she had seen Mary taking Kylie, hoping to discover if Devin was nearby to help answer some of David's questions. The two linguists had probably worked together for some time. His concern was only natural.

((You have to give the guy a little credit, the pain's in the midsection, lower right side if I remember, exact spot where the appendix is, and Devin's a very smart person, he might not be a M.D., but he has a basic understanding of the human anatomy, which includes the location of the appendix. 'Sides, he's not even sure, just an option he threw out there in his guessing.[/justify] ))

Mary finished her initial assessment of Kylie and smiled at the other woman. "Dr. Steele should be in here by now, I'm going to go see what's keeping her. You going to be ok?"

Kylie attempted to return Mary's smile, but could only manage a weak grimace. "I'll be fine really. It's not that bad." She waved her hand toward the curtain, letting Mary know that it was ok to leave her.

Mary nodded once and stepped out to the other side of the curtain. She started to walk toward Dr. Steele's office to find out what was keeping the other woman. Spotting Devin in the hallway, she assumed that Julianna was gathering the supplies that she would need. The Almodeus that she knew would never be so emotionally involved in something that he didn't even hear the request that she had made for him to go get the doctor. At least she didn't think he would. "Devin?" She waited for the man to acknowledge her before continuing. "Is Dr. Steele on her way?" She just wanted to double check before she tried to hurry the doctor along. It would make her seem impatient, and most doctors, especially the ones in this infirmary were very good about responding quickly once they knew that something was wrong.

Mary sighed and tried to meet Devin's eyes as she placed a gentle hand on his wrist. "Devin, I've known you for years, and never once have you seemed this absent-minded before. I know that you're worried about Kylie, and that's understandable, but I need you to stay focused, ok?" She gave Devin a small smile and continued. "I'm going to go talk to Dr. Steele, you're welcome to wait here until we know something for sure, but I would appreciate it if you did so in the waiting room, not the middle of the hall." Mary met Devin's eyes once more before turning toward Dr. Steele's office.
