what does the 9th chevron do..........maybe its for short distance dialing

I could be wrong, but within a galaxy the gate addresses are 7 symbols long. In order to travel to a diff galaxy, an 8th chevron has to be added. Is it a hypothetical question? If so, maybe the 9th chevron will be for a diff universe or dimension!

it porb just do dial the Acients home galexy as it has been stated they traveled to ours and obivisly pegisus isn't theres so its prob to dial there home galexy

Well always possible that the ninth cheveron is also for other galaxies. As due to the number of galaxies in the universe, maybe there is away for the 7th and 8th cheverons to be a 2 character galaxy identifier.

It might be for planets between galaxies or galaxies very far away. Don't think it's for short distance dailing as I don't think it's needed to dail to the one in Antartica. Prehaps it's a spare one the ancients added in case they wanted to add an extra fuction to the gate or allow it to connect further.

9th chevron is there for future gate network expansion... they just never got around to needing it. The phone network analogy is apt here, okay say you were to dial on a phone 345 6789, you would get routed to that number in your local area code (within a galaxy). But say if you wanted to dial someone with the same number in a different area code... for example area code 2 you would dial 2 then 345 6789. (a different galaxy) but then say you wanted to dial someone in the same area code with the same number in another country you would dial 1 then 2 then 345 6789. (a different cluster of galaxys)

Okay so;
7 chevrons = intragalactic travel. (different planets in your galaxy)
8 chevrons = intergalactic travel. (different galaxys in your quadrant)
9 chevrons = intrauniversal travel (to differnt quandrants of the universe)
