figured the ship naming out !

ok now we now know the third vessel is going to be called odysey, now this is my theory on their naming scheme.
The first class was called prommethius, which is a titan/legend
the second class is called daedalus which is a historic figure/inventor
the third class should be journeys or myths - like the odysey or the trojan
the forth class should be mythical beasts - such as hydra or krakken
the fifth class should be mythical places - such as olympus or hades (the place not the god)
the sixth class should be based on heros or superheros - like heracles or perseus
the seventh class should be gods - like athena and apollo

the ship class could be interchanged with the world ship so i would only have to wait another 4 ships to get something called athena on the show - btw i think athena is the best name for a ship defending earth (being goddess of wisdom,protection,warfare, and patron of soldiers and crafts).

I wonder if the ships are going to get bigger as they progress. To me it seems like the Daedalus is bigger than the Prometheus. If they get too much bigger, they will probably have to be assembled in orbit. That shouldn't be a problem since we now have artificial gravity and asgard beam tech for any space dock that would be needed.

As far as we know now, the Oddesy is the second Dadelus class ship. I'm wondering if it is supposed to be the Odysseus. The first two ship names refer to import characters in Greek mythology. Prometheus brough fire to man; the ship opened the galaxy to humans. Deadalus craftedd wings to allow himself to escape, and the ship named after him can soar between galaxies.

Odysseus was a great warrior and a resilient adventurer, who faced many dangers in his long journey home (the Oddesy). Let's see what the new ship is capable of before trying to classify it.

Check out this site for a list of Greek mythological characters, many being potential ship names. Personally, I'd like to have Protesilaüs or Hermes be the next ship's name.

Maybe we should avoid using the names of Gods for our ships, you never know there could be some Goa'uld out there using those names........would be a little awkward if we came "Zeus" or "Poseidon" when we're travelling in a ship with the same name.........

Maybe we should "go Asgard" and name a few ships after those who have helped us over the years........the "Thor" sounds cool, is a Norse god and a skinny little grey buddy of ours too boot!!

nah god names are ok as long as they are just names, and they would only be used for our superships; maybe athena could be the first flagship earth builds.

Exactly which is why i think it will be the one with the most advanced perfected hyperdrive because Hermes is really fast... therefore, it will be a while before we see Hermes.

I'm thinking Illiad may be next and Zeus with energy based weapons... Athena will be last when they perfect everything since Athena is wisdom... I'm thinking they will make a ship with basically nothing in it and call it Trojan Horse to send it to the Orii....

also, once they are finally capable of designing nice ships, not ugly ones like the Daedalus and Prometheus, although those ones are good... like once they fix the aesthetics of the ships, they will be named after the beautiful greek legends like Narcissus and Aprodite and Helen , etc.

Perhaps the Athena will look a bit like Atlantis, based loosely on it's design, and will have landing bays for the smaller ships to land and repair and hundreds of fighter bays for f-302's. Add to that possible energy weapons and the Ori would think twice before taking it on

The ships thus far have been named after nasa projects in space travel research. I am actually disapointed they didn't name the next ship after the orion project.

The ship names are quite literal, really:

Prometheus was a ship built with technology taken from a race who styled themselves gods and so they named it after the Titan who stole fire from the gods to give to humankind.

Daedalus was built to fly further and faster than any Terrestrial human had ever done before, so it was named after a man who learned to fly.

Not so sure if the Odyssey fits the pattern; depends what its primary role is.

I really doubt there'll be an Athena, since anything named after one of the more famous gods will probably end up sharing a name with a Goa'uld.
