can't name him o'neill because my furry nephew is jack and that's too close. i've already picked out a name-nothing from sg1 or sanctuary. too many people use those names for their pets. mines a bit more original.

Do you always re-name your rescue pets? We've always kept the name they had before or were given in kennels.

I always named my furry babies with noble titles - Baron, Czarina, Maharaja, Maharani, Duke, Baroness, and so forth. I finally ran out of those kinds of names and started on gods. My current little guy is Thor. It amuses me that he has this tough-guy name and he's a little Yorkie Of course, terriers have no concept of being small - as far as they're concerned, they're just as big as a mastiff.

Our two cats are both rescues, one from the shelter and one private. Ty kept his name (although we did shorten it from Tyrone, to be fair). Sephy on the other hand was Nikita when she arrived ... Mom didn't think it fit, so changed it to Persephone (I didn't think I should ask the reasoning on that *shakes head* but Sephy seems to work) My sis' rescue (from shelter) came without a name, so she originally called her Loki. Unfortunately she definitely was fitting that name (being a god of mischief and all...) so my sis decided to cease with the tempting of fate, and changed it to Stella

One day I'd like to have a couple of dogs - but ever since I was a kid I was very clear on my personal criteria: must have a relatively large fenced in yard first, and ensure I have enough income to properly feed and take care of my four-legged family members BEFORE they arrive! Until those criteria have been met, I'll stick with feline members of the fam

i wish more people took pet ownership more seriously. then there wouldn't be such an abundance of them in rescue places and shelters.

I have never given back anyone I adopt no matter how hard they are to deal with at first. To me, that couldn't be crueler. And I've never regretted it!

And Mastiffs are no small dog - my Bill...who also answers to Billy, Billy-Bob and William, is a mix of Bull Mastiff, English Mastiff and Arab Dane - but he's quiet and takes a lot of grief from my aunites little chihuahuas as they bark and nip at his feet...tho Bill gets his own back.

    I would do the same.

Nothing wrong with the name Nikita - it's Russian for unconquered...it also happens to be my daughters name.

That's why we waited to get another dog after Ralph died - I've seen too many people get puppies after losing a beloved pet only to not like what they got when the animal grew up and put them up for adoption...or worse.

I guess the three we have had already had been re-named by the rescue centre and been used to that name for a few months or had had thier names for several years. Seemed silly to try and get them to respond to something esle. Although I have always refered to all our dogs as Puppy... even though Boysie was seven when we got him, Jade was about a year but never grew up and Lady, well Lady is a lady... except when she's lying on her back with her legs spread wide. Not very ladylike.....

    Little bit OT.
Was watching the penultimate episode of Sanctuary season 4 today and noticed something.

Near the end (when everything is kicking off) there's a news reporter live on air and she introduces herself as 'Julia Hague'. I missed it first time round. Sorry if this is old news, but I just wanted to share in case it hadn't been noticed before.

I also got news today that my Season 4 discs are on their way! Yaay!

Ooh, I'll have to watch for that!

I know this probably sounds crazy, but I never watch the final episode of a season (or final few if it's an arc) until just before the new season starts. For some reason it makes the wait more bearable for me ... and if it's a series end ... well ... I still haven't watched 'em. *hangs head* I will when I get S4 on disc! Dad's supposed to watch for its arrival at BB and pick them up for me Yay belated bday present to myself LOL

As I said on the Sam thread, I completely missed that so I appreciate the fact that you mentioned it. I will pay more attention on the rewatch. I agree with Chelle, lovely tribute.

Neep, driving back from the lake this morning I was listending to the CD you gave me and, in particular, a lovely song about my Province.

Isn't her voice and music lovely? Her partner is also a singer/songwriter. When I visit my sister they can usually be found out in their studio/convert garage making beautiful music.

I just got offered the possibility of paid work in the Day Center today so I'm now on bank if they need me to fill in - best job in the world! Also have the chance to pick up an extra day in the laundry but I'm not sure I want to overload myself or risk not working in the day center if I'm committed to the extra laundry shift...so talked it over with hubby & I won't be accepting the extra day...hubby says I get too grumpy when I work too many days in the laundry - heaven help him in August if my manager gives me every weekend to work as the other girl goes on annual leave.

    Awww bless!
Yay for the offer of extra shifts though - it's good to have lots of work to do! We're on permanent OT until year end (end of Sept), pretty much ... so while they haven't mandated the OT yet, we're being strongly encouraged to work as much of it as we can, within ministry guidelines. My GABIT fund is cheering me on
