Babylon 5 is the absolute best science fiction!
I can't say enough good things about J. Michael Straczynski and his creation.

Watching now: Doctor Who Series 3/29 (rewatch) - The X-Files Season 2 (rewatch) - Pushing Daisies Season 1 - Torchwood Series 1 - Red Dwarf Series 8 - Battlestar Galactica Season 2 (rewatch) - Northern Exposure Season 3 (rewatch)
I don't know if it's the best(I haven't seen everything out there), but it certainly is excellent sci-fi and an excellent series....period.I love the way the stories unfold and how everything comes together over the seasons.
I have seen them come and go !!!,But Babylon 5 is the only one that really got to me,so for me anyway,YES Babylon 5 is the best scifi show EVER !!!
B5 was almost perfect, but not quite. I don't think any show before or after B5 has achieved perfection, though.
Like Stormy, B5 has had the greatest impact on me and it's still my number one show. There's never a day goes by when I don't think about a particular scene or character.
"It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise, what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world, because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past."

Wasn't fully realized?
What was left out? All of the important things were resolved and nicely tucked away.
Because of the uncertainty of whether or not B5 would get a 5th Season, JMS had to sort of speed up the story in Season 4; so the Shadow War was cut a little short to make room for the War to Retake Earth. Season 4 was supposed to end with "The Face of the Enemy", after all.
I don't mean that there were important things left out; just that JMS had to make a few compromises.
I agree that all of the important things were nicely resolved. Nothing major was left out. And this compromise didn't detract from the story after all.

I agree he could have gone into more detail in season 5 with Telepath War and other crew members like Lt. Corwin,Sleeping in the Light was SO GREAT !!!,but it was also SO FINAL,and left me wanting to know more about what happend to each and everyone, before and after the 20 years, you know !!!,But I came to love each one of them !!!![]()

Hopefully Warener Brothers or someone will let gone of some of their money and He will tie up all the loose ends in a couple of movies, wouldn't that be great !!!.But till all we can do is wait and wonder, what if......
Funny thing happened to me the other day. I watch all my Sci-Fi in a cycle. It takes about 2 years to go through my whole collection. So I was just about finished with Star wars (4-5-6-1-2-3) and had this empty feeling like I'd eaten too much holiday candy. A lot of those last 3 SW films are so FX intense and character lite that it just doesn't satisfy.
So I was finally back to B5 which is in second place on my fav TV Sci-fi, just behind Gateworld. I started with season 1, not expecting much from the first few episodes. Omigawsh: Acting, Dialog, Subtlety. Lucas should have brought JMS in to work over his scripts and help with casting. All the prophetic fine points foreseeing elements that are 5 years away. The thing is a masterpiece of writing and character.
And since FX can do ANYTHING nowadays, it's sort of going down my list of priorities. And B5 continues to move up.
B5 is the best written Sci-Fi show, no contest. I don't know why people complain about the sfx. I think the space scenes still hold up today, though the ppg fire is a bit cheesy.

I agree.
JMS and B5 gave us the word 'Vorlon'. Golden!
Best.Aliens.Ever!
B5 smokes all other Sci-fi shows, the plot arc, the moments, the politics, the complex morality. When people talk about cheesy dialouge I'm always shocked when I think of the conversations between G'Kar and Londo, and some of the speeches. Then I compare it with some of the cheesey muck that assails certain other over-rated and over-lauded short-lived shows.
Shakes head. People obviously want glib childish conversations whereby people sound slightly retarded.
SG-1 has the better team dynamic though and some great villians.
Apart from SG-1 and Farscape, no space opera comes close.
I started a full re-watch not long ago (this time including Crusade now that I have the DVD set for the first time). I don't know if B5 would qualify as the best sci-fi ever, but it's certainly my favorite. Though I am a fan of DS9 and other sci-fi shows (including Doctor Who), I keep coming back to B5 because of its uniqueness. At this point, watching Farscape (despite Ben Browder and Claudia Black) doesn't interest me.
The thing about B5 is that it's powerfully philosophical but at the same time, the writing can be very down-to-earth and honest—as down-to-earth and honest as some of the cop shows I've come to enjoy over the years. You don't exactly get that with other sci-fi.
JMS does incredible speeches. And he has great character interactions. G'Kar and Londo are perfection. It's his romatic relationship dialogue that is painfully cheesy.
Mourning Sanctuary.
Thanks for the good times!
