    The Curse of Dr McKay

    First post, so be gentle!

Has anyone else noticed that Rodney seems to be cursed? Or at least other scientists that happen to follow him on missions? Every single episode this season where and where Rodney goes on a mission with a scientist, a scientist dies. They can't even walk around Atlantis for a few hours without someone falling over!

If Carter does happen to go to Atlantis, I sure hope she doesn't have to go on any missions with him...or at least bring a few xtra 'red-shirt' scientists along as a buffer.

Killing people makes the show more exciting, odly enough. And when chosing who to kill.... probably better off not the regualar.

The should send McKay and Carter off together, see if they cand efy scifi physics and both survive

Spoiler free since Jan 3 2005 (It's getting harder each day)
    DOOOOOOOM!

The mortality rate on Atlantis has actually been pretty low for the first season of Atlantis. First season of SG was full of killing of SGC personal. Maybe they need to stop sending McKay into such dangerous situations and people around him will stop dying.

it does !!!! someone always dies when Rodney is near so the producers should just keep him in the extras company

          Wild speculation here...

If Rodney is indeed cursed it can probably be traced back to Sam. Remember in Redemption pt. 2 where she kissed him on the cheek? There's an insider joke on GW that all the men that Sam has smooched have met an untimely demise (excluding Jack, natch). Think "black widow". However, since she only kissed Rodney on the cheek perhaps that spared his life but doomed him to pass the curse on to others around him?

Ya know- you may be right there- we were speculating on something similar on the Scifi board the other day- that Rodney definetly has- well somethin' goin' on there- wouldn't it be funny just to see if he ascended and returned to atlantis- just to see his reaction- if indeed the ascended ancients would take him- that is-

              ::snicker:: Ooh, good point.

Hey, I wonder if it's catching in another way? Rodney hasn't had a gf since that ep (that we know of). If he ever gets one, and she dies, we'll know it really is a curse!

Yeah very good point. It's probably to show that he's strong or something.

That's because he was always the guest star, and there was no way a guest star could have the correct answer over the regular.

Which brings up the question of what would happen if Carter were to come to Atlantis? She'd be the guest star, but the writers have made her almost never be wrong.

Maybe but McKays too good to have that happen to him again.

Then they'd have to both be wrong. Catastrophically wrong (unlikely, but hey) and Zelenka gets to save the day, huzzah, and forever send Rodney smug sideways glances till Rodney implodes. Which is the point really, for me at least, watching Rodney implode.

They don't have to have Sam be wrong. Just not know as much about Ancient tech or the ways things work in the Pegasus Galaxy.

I think Rodney would be very flustered, but pleased. if Sam told him that maybe he's found the art in his science.
