Interesting article!
GW: So you're going to continue to wear the wig throughout the year?
JM: Yeah. SCI FI won't let me cut it.

I don't see what difference it makes though... he's not Samson, it's the same character - dreads or not!!!

Yes! Of course it would be the same.
Michael Shanks cut his hair and did it affect Jackson's character in anyway? Did it make his character less believable? Did his popularity plummet after he'd cut his hair? No?
What about Teal'c? He was an alien so its essential to keep the same look - but wait a minute he grew hair. Yet some how we still managed to see him as Teal'c.
Actors change hairstyles all the time - I really don't think that Ronon would be any less popular whether he has dreads, short hair or is completely bald.
Jason had a perfectly valid reason for wanting to be rid of them - you think the network would have been a bit more understanding.

I agree. I think we know Ronan well enough by now that he doesn't need dreads to distinguish him. None of the other Satedans we saw had them, so it's not a cultural thing. If they're afraid of a big change, I'm sure the writers could come up with some explanation for the new look.
I can't believe SciFi is willing to risk an actor's health.
On second thought, yes I can. Appalling.

It took years for CJ to persuade them to let him grow hair. And as you say, the (SG) world didn't come to an end when he did. They never explained why Teal'c was bald anyway. The other Jaffa we saw had regular hair.
I don't think the network types give the audience enough credit. We're talking a hairstyle change, not a personality change.

Re: INTERVIEW: Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex)
Props to Jason for being so candid. Ronon's relationships with other characters aren't really explored, we don't really get to see him getting along with anyone other than Sheppard and Teyla, and these are all things that should probably be looked at before we jump into a love triangle.
Also, Sci-Fi needs to let him do the show sans dreads. In addition to the lost opportunity for a character moment, it's just stupid to put an actor through physical pain for a hairstyle. This isn't Keri Russell we're talking about; the world will not end if we see Ronon without his locs. If he injures himself badly he could very well sue the network and have a good case.

Re: INTERVIEW: Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex)
Um, wow. That's a surprisingly frank interview. Is it just me or are the actors getting more vocal in criticising the show?
I agree with some of his assertions. He does seem to have a good grasp of what is appropriate for the character. IMO.

Re: INTERVIEW: Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex)
He had some very interesting things to say. I too can't believe that he was candid during the interview as he was.
It's appalling that the Sci Fi network is so overly controlling that they won't let the guy have short hair. What would Ronon loose all of his aggressive manhood? And the fact that they were willing to spend that much money on hair is pretty disgraceful. Surely they could put their money to better use. Say, I don't know more special effects?

And now my heart's broken. Was so looking forward to video or audio.
Amazing interview, loved hearing about his opinion on things. Such a shame they didn't let him cut the dreads, it would've been amazing to see his and everyone's reaction to him not having them anymore.

Re: INTERVIEW: Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex)
I was looking forward to the scene they wrote where he cuts them all off, myself. I pictured something very dramatic happening. Oh well. Put it on the shelf for when they eventually relent.
