Third *SG-1* movie ("Stargate Revolution") hopes/speculation/ideas

I think now that the first season of SGU is wrapped up they will go right into making the new Jack-centric movie and then the Atlantis movie. Perhaps at the same time.

It's good to think positively. But I won't be holding my breath about that idea. It still depends on whether MGM decides it has the money to fund the 3rd movie, and at this point it still doesn't look very promising.

About the movie:

GW: I'm assuming you still haven't heard anything from Brad or Rob. Have you seen anything in regards to the third movie? Obviously it's not going to move forward anytime soon. Has there been discussion?

MS: Yeah, the only discussion... I had a discussion with Rob about it. And it's no different than the discussion I had previously. MGM is concerned about the DVD market. And when you're doing a direct-to-DVD movie, that is a bit of a concern. When you see a forty percent falling off of sales, or something to that note.

One thing I can say about delaying it, and I was saying it to the audience [at the Q&A] today. It's good for everybody from the sense of if you're going to do it, do it right. Do it at the right time. Because if we did it, and it fell on its face... we wouldn't be doing any more. That's just the nature of the business. You couldn't get people to invest their money. It's like a fund.

GW: It's all about economics.

MS: Yeah! It's all about economics. And if people think this is a risky proposition or that the well has dried up. When it comes to this, then if you want to do a fourth one, no matter how much begging or pleading you're going to do, if this one falls on its face just because of the economic situation right now, then we got a problem. We're not going to do another one.

If we can do it a few months later, with possibly a different economic situation or a different marketplace evolving at that point, then you have an opportunity to be able to continue to do more.

So you don't want to rush it just because we're dying to see one. You kind of want to do it right. So you have to respect the money men in this business, of course. Because that's what makes it all happen. That's the reason I've heard. I've also heard a December-January possibility. But I think it's kind of like saying to your kids, "We'll see." As a parent, you always go, "We'll see," and what you really mean is, "I don't know. Ask me again next week."

About the movie:

I would like to think it would be filmed in Dec/Jan but that interview is from August. Funny they're just posting it now, I would think an MS interview would be something they'd want to post right away.

Ah, didn't know it was from August. I had no time to check everything this summer, so I missed. That explains some things.

I posted it myself and then deleted the post, so you weren't the only one who didn't see the date at first. But it wasn't published last summer, as far as I know, so you didn't miss it- it wasn't there. It's weird they're only just now putting it up.

Michael's interviews (I don't know for the other interviews because I follow just Michael) on GW are always posted after a while, therefore the news are always old.

I think that in one of the podcasts David said something about doing a bunch of interviews all at once - during some convention for example - and then posting them on the site gradually during following months. Apparently it's a way to have something "new" each week all year round. Not sure if this is the case here though.

It's a real shame this interview is from August. The possibility of starting to film in December/January got me really excited..

Yep....apart from a brief snippet relating to SGU which appeared on the main site a few weeks back this is the full version of what was done in Chicago.....nice to hear and read it in full, but again not so brilliant to hear oldish news re: the movies...


I'll wait...I'm patient...and if nothing happens, well I've got my memories and DVD's... - you know there really should be a Janet smiley...

I feel pretty much as you do. I really do hope we get this third movie, but if we don't, we do have 10 wonderful seasons and two great movies to always treasure.

Nope, realist maybe. SGU has finished filming and neither the producers nor the actors have heard any news on the movie, filming starting any time soon simply isn't going to happen.
