Reasons you watch SGU - Page 3

I wasn't going to watch it initially because they keep getting rid of perfectly good Stargate shows, and I didn't watch the season premiere. I actually caught the premiere in a repeat a week or so later, and I was intrigued. I liked Young and Rush immediately. I have come to like TJ and Eli now, and I'm still waiting for the rest to rub off on me.

I think the drama of the show is what is appealing to me right now. I loved SG-1 for all ten years without complaint, and I really liked Atlantis, although sometimes there was too much comedy. After a while, I couldn't take any of the danger seriously because the characters didn't take the danger seriously. SGU is very different in that regard. There's real drama in this series, and the danger seems real too.

So far, I am looking forward to each episode, which is a good thing.

Honestly, I'm not a huge scifi fan like many people here. Once in a while though, a show will come along that catches my interest. SG1 was one, something about putting present-day Earth humans way over their heads into technology they could have never dreamed of. And then dealing with it and learning it. Then there was Atlantis, taking present day people who were starting to understand things better, and make them "kids in a candy store" in another galaxy. Universe is holding my interest so far because while these people were somewhat familiar with the technology, they didn't really expect to be thrown into a place where using it would be a life or death situation. Universe seems to have a bit more realistic people. In SG1 and Atlantis, you always knew that everyone was a team player, which makes a good show in one way. In Universe so far, you just never know where anybody's loyalties are which makes it good in a different way. You know that generally the good guys will prevail( in any show) but you wonder how they'll do it when they don't know who can be trusted. Then there's the humor, those little one liners that remind you that these are regular present day people.

I love both the general Stargate concept and the way in which Universe has simultaneously moved further from Earth and - through the stones - closer. In SG-1 and even in Atlantis there was a bit of action on Earth but the "can't truly go back, it's close enough to touch but not to stay" angle makes the connection feel somehow stronger. It's hard to describe, sorry.

Also it's a story, and I always get hooked on a good story, especially one with scifi stuff, effects, interesting chracaters and drama.

I watch the show because it's awesome.
I love Stargate and I'm so glad we finally get some new episodes.
SGU feels all fresh and new too me.

Why do I watch SGU? It's Stargate but it's not.

I like shows that feature a long-running arc--Deep Space 9, Babylon 5, and the 3rd and 4th seasons of Enterprise. Though I like SG-1 and Atlantis, they felt way too episodic at times. SGU feels much more "tight" in terms of adhering to an arc. Additionally, the characters feel highly developed in SGU. We have already seen a great deal of backstory with each of the main characters and a fair amount with the secondaries. Sheppard was my favorite character on Atlantis but I hardly know anything about his backstory and I didn't even see much of that trotted out until the middle of season 4. We're not going to wait that long to get the backstory on people like Young or Rush.

I watch it because:

1. It's Stargate
2. It's starting to actually be like Stargate ("Water" harked back to early SG-1)
3. It's good.
4. BSG is gone.
5. Atlantis is gone (which is a relief because I carried on watching no matter how crap it got)
6. SG-1 is gone (as point 5, from S7 onwards).
7. And again; BECAUSE IT'S ACTUALLY BLOODY GOOD!

cause it isn't Atlantis. it's not a action adventure show it has a story and great characters with a complaining story

So? I watched 13 seasons of the show over 5 or 6 weeks while working almost-full-time and completing my final-year university project with honours (and some other unit which I don't really remember) and I think I may have still found time to sleep. (My point being you don't need lots of free time to watch lots of stargate

) [edit]so yeah, I was seriously addicted and still am.

I'm not totally blow away by it either, or at least not as I thought I would.... but I enjoy Stargate shows. I'm enjoying this one... Also I feeling it going to great really really good.
