Why don't you guys just ask Joe. I mean we have a thread for asking him questions. So far this week, he's stopped by every night.![]()
At this point we don't know.Originally Posted by Hyperspace

It probably doesn't do much good to speculate....that said,
I keep thinking of what RSF went through to audition and get the part (I think they talked about it during the Atlantis lowdown thing). It seems funny that he would go through that just to ask to be written out after twenty-odd episodes. I think it's the writers deciding to chuck him. But someone upthread said we should just go straight to the source and ask Joe M., see if he responds.
ETA: I just read on another thread that Joe M. says Ford's fate is still up in the air. Who knows, although I think he's gone, if the fans seem to care, they might not kill him off like I think they will.

Well, I signed it. I don't know how far it'll go, but at least I will be able to say that I did as much as a fan can do, when it comes to letting them know that we like the characer. We'll see...
I saw this coming. I like his character, hopefully they won't kill him. I sign!
especially since he is a deadpool fan!
Addon to my earlier post...
Its the writers fault he wasnt developed, they didnt develop him!
Ive said it before in all my other posts on how we should save him, he is the most interesting because he is the most normal. Not a genus, not genetically advanced, not an alien. He's Just joe military, reacting thusly so.
The Brotherhood showed off that his character can be usefull.
To the writers: Just write about him, and he'll be great.
Also, i think he is the funniest on the show. If you just watch his reactions to Sheppard and McKay, and his little sly remarks, youll see it.
Look at his convo with McKay in home for examples.

I don't know... I kinda prefer to put Ford down to recurring character. Maybe then they'll do something interesting with him; as a lead they've found nothing to do with him the whole season. He's nice enough, but lacks character; that might actually change if they only bring him in when they've actually got something to do with him.
From the outset he's been suffering Ensign Kim syndrome!
There's a huge difference between starting a campaign to support a character and the actions of some fans.
Fan support has been instrumental in MANY occaisions for getting a character reinstated. Michael Shanks has said that it was the support of fans when he announced he was leaving that helped TPTB understand that the character might actually be wanted.
So there's no reason why the fans of Rainbow and Lt Ford shouldn't get a petition going. However, I would suggest that writing letters would be far more constructive as they're listened to more than anything produced online, as they take more effort. To have your letter taken into account make sure that it is civil, not abusive, and states your point clearly in good English.
Signed.
We're doing that also. On the Save Aiden Ford Project website, we're listing ways fans can get up with the writers and producers of the show to show their support of keeping RSF active. It's a work-in-progress.Originally Posted by GateGipsy

Well said Shadow. I've had twenty years of being a scifi fan, and two years is hardly the length of time people have been trying to "save" things.Originally Posted by ShadowMaat

Respectfully, if you're sick of it, why are you posting on the thread about it? That's like walking into a room to tell people you're not going into that room.Originally Posted by Major Fischer
Well, I signed, I hope they really do keep Ford, this campaign might not work, but I'll support it anyway, it's in my sig!![]()
I signed also. If it does any good or not I don't know, but as I would rather he stay a main character I don't think it could hurt to sign. He seemed so enthusiastic in the Lowdown.
Well I signed. I don't so much mind he's being made recurring since he is getting more development but I still hope that he'll be more than just a S2 recurring character
Sounds to me like this is a chance to turn a bland vanilla character that screams "red shirt" (as in the TOS security "4th man in the landing crew" who gets killed) into somebody interesting.
Even if it costs him being a regular on the show, the opportunity to portray something different sounds like a good opportunity to me. Moreover, if the character isn't killed, he could always return to the fold of regular cast members with a much more interesting backstory to draw upon.
Tha alternative is to continue to play an essentially boring character. That sounds like a losing hand to me.
you all are acting like they are writing off the character all together. they are taking him in a new and exciting direction. they are doing something with the character they ahve never done before with any other character. its not like he is getting killed off, he is being changed. they havnt even said what exactly they mean by a recurring character. for all we know he could still be in half the episodes or more. don s. davis didnt get equal billing in the credits till season six, and he was in just about every episode for the first 5 seasons! you all say you love the character, so why dont you let the writers alone to have him grow!
The fact that they're bringing in an entirely new alien character and making Beckett a regular suggests that they thought trimming some fat off the main cast was required. What better than a guy they hadn't really developed yet?
This reminds me of Stargate, and Michael Shanks. Even though HIS departure was voluntary, they didn't really kill off the character so the fans wouldn't be totally pissed. Having RSF/Ford turn into SuperSoldier and fly away is a convenient way to have him gone most of the time, but hey, he's not really dead. He's just out there, and if the fans really want him back and make alot of noise, he'll be back. If it's all about McKay/Beckett/Sheppard, and the alien guy is cute, Ford's gone. Recurring to me means, we want someone else center stage, so a current person's gotta go. Two new main characters doesn't leave alot of room for anybody, and if they leave the focus on the trippy trio, I actually wonder about Weir and Teyla.
Frankly, I just do not see the need to demote someone to recurring to make their character more compelling. If that is the case, then new writers need to be hired. It's almost as annoying as throwing the female character into bed with the hot guy because the male writer doesn't know what else to do with her.![]()
