Interesting, I didn't realize the gate was actually a large real projector, I wonder why, it's got to be CG'd in no camera would have the effect look so good if it was projected so why even have it there not green screen?

They just put a puddle on the screen to save some money here and there during episodes. They've been doing it since S8-S9 or SG-1 I believe. Obviously when they walk through it, it's full CGI.

films sets such as SGU are actualy VERY bright the dark feel is rendered digitaly in post production. you need a lot of light for a movie camera to be most efficient.
